The New York Times bestselling author of the Wicked Lovely series delivers her first novel for adults, a story about the living, the dead, and a curse that binds them.
Rebekkah Barrow never forgot the tender attention her grandmother, Maylene, bestowed upon the dead of Claysville, the town where Bek spent her adolescence. There wasn’t a funeral that Maylene didn’t attend, and at each Rebekkah watched as Maylene performed the same unusual ritual: three sips from a small silver flask followed by the words “Sleep well, and stay where I put you.”
Now Maylene is dead and Bek must go back to the place—and the man—she left a decade ago. But what she soon discovers is that Maylene was murdered and that there was good reason for her odd traditions. It turns out that in placid Claysville, the worlds of the living and the dead are dangerously connected. Beneath the town lies a shadowy, lawless land ruled by the enigmatic Charles, aka Mr. D—a place from which the dead will return if their graves are not properly minded. Only the Graveminder, a Barrow woman, and the current Undertaker, Byron, can set things to right once the dead begin to walk.

Killer new haircut? $50
Creepy antique chest? $100
Unleashing Hell on Earth? Priceless!
Hairstylist Lucia Gregory has serious problems. Who knew opening an antique chest would unleash Hell’s minions? Then again, when the chest is labeled Arca Infernorum, she should’ve known better. Strange things happen the moment it’s opened. Mirrors implode and shampoo bowls erupt like geysers. But that’s the least of her worries. Overnight, she turns into a sexpot. Men, including her gay coworkers, throw themselves at her feet. Only one man is immune—Rafael Deleon, a broodingly sexy man who says he’s a demon. He’s everything she’s avoided—stony and reserved—but that only adds to his mysterious appeal.
Rafael has his own personal demons where the opposite sex is concerned. Any woman he’s cared for has met a horrible demise. As a demon protector of Limbo, He’s sent to retrieve the chest before it’s opened. He’s too late. Hell is unleashed in the most unlikely of places, a suburban hair salon. What’s worse–Lucy, a beautiful half-succubus, has no idea about the power she possesses. Being a demon, he should be able to resist her charms. That resistance is slipping when he needs it most.
When an evil demon arrives to sink his claws into Lucy and the chest, Rafe is determined to protect Lucy, who’d rather go into battle with guns blazing and daggers zinging. Sparks fly as they fight their growing attraction. Will Lucy be able to break through the stone fortress Rafe’s built around his heart, or will they suffer their own demonic demise?

| Series: Elven Lords #2 Date/Publisher: August 1st 2011 by Sourcebooks Casablanca Cover Artist: N/A Cover Source: Wicked Scribes Author Comments: I adore this cover, which captures the lightning she can command, the sparkles of magic, the ethereal feel of the images that capture the style of the story inside. I only had a few recommendations: I'd love to see a pointed elven ear poking through Cecily's hair, Giles's hair must be the elven white, and I'm not sure about the color of my name, I think it captures attention but jars a bit. What do you think? Anyhoo, I hope they don't change the cover too much, cause I really love it! And I hope you will love the story inside as well! My Thoughts: | ![]() |

And my picks for Best & Worst…
Best Cover: THE VAMPIRE STALKER
Worst Cover: TASTE ME
So any new to you covers? Any contenders for Best Sneak Peek Cover 2011? Which are your Best & Worst picks?

Vampire Stalker? What a title! LOL
ReplyDeleteLove these posts of yours.
Thank you for the coverage on the covers!
ReplyDelete;)
All the best,
RKCharron
I love the Dead Rules cover! It's pretty and creepy at the same time. And I was also disappointed with the Graveminder cover. I'm not much of a fan of the sepia tone.
ReplyDeleteThanks for sharing these. :)
I have to say, I really like the Graveminder cover. I've read the book, and I think the cover fits. It's literary, but creepy. And this cover manages to convey that without any of the overused urban fantasy images. ;)
ReplyDeleteAs for my own "Reaper" cover, my only complaint is that I picture Tod looking much older than this. He's 18. I love the look of the cover, but think the model is too young.
Also, I agree that the Touch Me cover looks way too much like the Showalter covers--which was no doubt intentional.
Loving the new Reaper cover. I've read all of Rachel's Shifters series. I already have the first book of the Soul Screamers waiting in my TBR pile. I have high hopes!
ReplyDeleteKatie - the title for Vampire Stalker threw me too. I was telling my much younger sis about the plot and we both glanced at the Twilight books on my shelf :)
ReplyDeleteRK - You bet. Hope you spotted a few to add to your wish list.
Shannon - Dead rules sounds like a twisted fun ride, but the cover isn't doing it for me. And I'm with you all the way on Graveminder.
Rachel - I don't doubt that Graveminder will be great, and hearing that the cover really suits the tone of the story goes a long way for me. But Melissa's Wicked Lovely covers were so unique and gorgeous that I expected an equal--but different--wow factor. The dilapidated house is overused IMO, much like the traditional UF images. Maybe I'll have to eat my words when I read it :)
The Reaper cover, on the other hand :) Tod does look a little younger than I envisioned him too, but he does look like want I imagined at...fifteen-ish? After finishing MSTS the other night I'm dying to get inside Tod's head. I know exactly what I'll be doing on Dec 1st.
Carmel - They are really good. That's all I'll say. This upcoming one is probably my favorite so far.
Abigail, I guess I can see the dilapidated house as being overused--I just haven't seen it used much in genre fiction. I tend to think of it as literary. And while Graveminder does have a literary feel, it is also definitely genre fiction. And very, very different from Marr's fae series. I hope you love it!
ReplyDeleteRachel - You're right about the dilapidated house image being more of a literary image. That is where I've been noticing it. Maybe Graveminder will help start a new crossover trend? Thanks for chiming in :)
ReplyDeleteActually, I like the Dead Rules cover - a bit freaky, yes, but still pretty somehow.
ReplyDeleteBeauty School Demon looks interesting, too. The rest of the covers are sort of meh, IMO.
