Cover Art Coverage: 13 new titles!

I’ve tweaked the format of this post yet again.  I keep trying to find that perfect balance between layout and information.  I think this is better. Any thoughts? And I’ll also be naming my Best & Worst covers at the bottom of this post.

I can't begin to describe how much I am in love with this cover. Green is my favorite color. I love the way that Calla is in the wild, yet still caged by the vines. AND it is a perfect rendering of one of my favorite scenes in the book!!

My Thoughts:Thumbs up
I like this cover sooo much better than NIGHTSHADE (which was beautiful but not really suited to the book). This looks like Calla to me.  I’m dying to read it.

I’m not really a big fan of these chick-lit style covers, but this is well done.

A simple image of a rose in the snow with the paranormal cherry on top: blood.  I love these ‘cabin’ type stories.  Can’t wait.

Nocturne
Description:

When Nicole Walker runs off the road in a blinding snowstorm after attending a friend’s wedding at a Colorado ski resort, she wakes up to find herself stranded at the remote mountain house of a handsome, enigmatic stranger. She lives and works in a fast-paced, high tech world; he is cultured and modern yet lives a quiet life in self-imposed exile. They are both powerfully attracted to each other, but there are things about him that mystify her and fill her with apprehension—and Nicole can’t shake the feeling that he really doesn’t want her there.
She soon discovers that he’s a famous, reclusive author, renowned for his highly detailed and authentic historical fiction, and fiercely protective of his privacy. No wonder he was so reluctant to take her in, Nicole thinks. But he hides a far darker secret. As the sexual tension between them builds, the clues mount up.
When Nicole realizes that her host is an ages-old vampire who thirsts for her blood, there’s nowhere for her to run but the blizzard raging outside, and he’s the only one who can save her life. By now there is no turning back; they have both fallen deeply in love, and share several passionate days together while waiting out the storm—a deep, meaningful, and dangerously seductive experience that will change them both forever

This is the US cover (I posted the UK previously – see below).  I think I prefer the US cover, what about you?

Description:
Riley has always wanted to be a Demon Trapper like her father, and she's already following in his footsteps as one of the best. But it's tough being the only girl in an all-guy world, especially when three of those guys start making her life more complicated: Simon, the angelic apprentice who has heaven on his side; Beck, the tough trapper who thinks he's God's gift, and Ori, the strikingly sexy stranger who keeps turning up to save her ass. One thing's for sure - if she doesn't keep her wits about her there'll be hell to pay..

Hunt the Moon, the fifth Cassie Palmer novel, has a cover!  Penguin has a reputation in the industry for some of the most attractive, eye-catching covers, and we think it's well deserved.  How about you?

Yay!!! Man this cover makes me so happy!!!!! But wait a second, you may be saying. This cover doesn't look quite like it belongs with my other books. Well, you're right. As the Harper design team was putting this cover together they kept saying that it just worked out so much better to have the title off-set and the image zoomed in more. But . . . well, it doesn't quite match the others that way. Then someone (someone brilliant and amazing) suggested that maybe the whole series could benefit from a bit of a make-over. A more grown-up look, perhaps. And so my special surprise is that the whole series is getting a very slightly tweaked look that I think is totally gorgeous.

My Thoughts:Thumbs up
All these covers are sweet and simple, just like the books.

Description:

SPOILER IF YOU HAVEN’T READ THE PREVIOUS BOOKS
"I don't do patrols, I don't go hunting, I just stick close to you. You live your life, I'll keep you safe," Tamani said, sweeping a lock of hair from her face. "Or die trying."
Laurel hasn't seen Tamani since she begged him to let her go last year. Though her heart still aches, Laurel is confident that David was the right choice.
But just as life returns to normal, Laurel realizes that a hidden enemy lies in wait. Once again, Laurel must turn to Tamani to protect and guide her, for the danger that now threatens Avalon is one that no faerie thought would ever be possible. And for the first time, Laurel cannot be sure that her side will prevail.

I LOVE LOVE LOVE the cover. Now, this is just the ARC, so that cover might not be final, but ISN’T IT THE BEST THING YOU’VE EVER SEEN? I mean, since the SISTERS RED cover which is also THE BEST THING YOU’VE EVER SEEN, right?

My Thoughts:Thumbs up
How crazy cool is this cover?  I’ve been staring and staring at it.

Description:

SWEETLY is a modernization of Hansel and Gretel and a companion book to SISTERS RED and FATHOMLESS.

Twelve years ago, Gretchen, her twin sister, and her brother went looking for a witch in the forest. They found something. Maybe it was a witch, maybe a monster, they aren’t sure—they were running too fast to tell. Either way, Gretchen’s twin sister was never seen again.

Years later, after being thrown out of their house, Gretchen and Ansel find themselves in Live Oak, South Carolina, a place on the verge of becoming a ghost town. They move in with Sophia Kelly, a young and beautiful chocolatier owner who opens not only her home, but her heart to Gretchen and Ansel.

Yet the witch isn’t gone—it’s here, lurking in the forests of Live Oak, preying on Live Oak girls every year after Sophia Kelly’s infamous chocolate festival. But Gretchen is determined to stop running from witches in the forest, and start fighting back. Alongside Samuel Reynolds, a boy as quick with a gun as he is a sarcastic remark, Gretchen digs deeper into the mystery of not only what the witch is, but how it chooses its victims. Yet the further she investigates, the more she finds herself wondering who the real monster is, and if love can be as deadly as it is beautiful.

Wow, so not what I was expecting for this sequel.  Super hot! I think this cover will have a much bigger female audience.

Description:

In the bestselling tradition of Jim Butcher, the second book in an exciting new urban fantasy series about a thief and an unlikely genie.

For the past year, “retired” thief Gavyn Donatti has been helping his partner Ian hunt down and destroy the Morai, a dangerous djinn clan bent on murdering them both. Instead of casting a simple destruction spell in a Virginia mountain cave, they uncover a bloodthirsty cult of djinn descendants that shouldn’t exist. And when the cult kidnaps Ian’s wife, the princess Akila, the race to save her becomes a desperate bid to stay alive and stop the Morai from taking more lives, along with the right to rule the world.

I always love the blue-black covers.  This one is hitting all my UF must-haves.  And a Greek mythology plot?  Yes, please.

Description:

A brand-new urban fantasy from the acclaimed author of the Morgan Kingsley series!

Nikki Glass thinks of herself as an ordinary person, although her skills as a private investigator sometimes verge on the uncanny. But whatever Nikki might think of herself, she is far from ordinary, as she discovers one life-altering night when she loses control of her car on an icy road, accidentally killing a man who appears out of nowhere. The man Nikki struck with her car was an immortal who wanted to die—and she has now inadvertently stolen his immortality. As a descendant of the Greek goddess Artemis, Nikki’s talents have reached supernatural proportions. Of course, before she was an immortal, there wasn’t anyone who wanted her dead….

The cover is a little sexier that the description seems to warrant, but this cover does scream urban fantasy.

Description:

Jackie Rutledge is a Chicago FBI agent who walks that fine line between competence and nervous breakdown. When a killer begins bleeding people dry, Jackie’s psychic partner Laurel, tells her to get off the case. The spirit world is involved and they aren’t playing nice. Worse, the prime suspect, one PI Nick Anderson, seems to exude death worse than the local cemetery. Jackie is not a “leave well enough alone” sort of woman however. She hasn’t let a bad guy get away since she was twelve, and this one will be no different. Unless of course, he’s not the killer. Despite the evidence, Jackie does not get the “killer” vibe from Nick. He’s not at all what he appears. His past goes back far beyond the humanly possible. In fact, nothing about the case makes sense, and the more they dig, the more it seems Laurel was right. They’re dealing with a killer who effortlessly walks between the living and the dead, and she will need Nick’s help to take that step, because facing the dead is where Jackie’s competence ends and the breakdown begins

Beautiful and ethereal, but I can’t decide if I love or hate the tagline: “
The Book of Spells will make you it's witch.”

The Book of Spells

Description:

The Book of Spells will make you it's witch.
Just as the Private series comes to a close, we take a look back. Hundred years ago, the originals Billings School for Girls and was the sister school to Easton Academy. Meant to turn girls into dutiful wives, it ended up producing one of the school's most enduring legacies.
At the helm is Elizabeth Williams. Joining with her friends, they decide to form the Billings Literary Society. Initiation is difficult and dangerous, but once the eleven girls are part of the society, she informs them she would like them to a part of her coven. A powerful witch by birth, Elizabeth shares the book of spells that has been passed through her family. The girls cast charms, cursing the headmaster and giving blisters to boys with wandering hands.
But soon things grow sinister and the coven begins to splinter, with some wanting eternal wealth and others looking for even darker magic. Can Elizabeth put a stop to what she has created? And what repercussions will this have for the future girls of Billings?

  1. I love the new Cassie Palmer cover! She looks smokin' hot! YEOW!

'Sweetly' looks amazing... but I'm kind of bummed that the book isn't a continuation of 'Sister's Red' and focused on scarred-sister, Scarlett. I was really hoping we'd read about Scarlett getting her HEA since she was kinda screwed-over in 'Sister's Red'.

  2. Danielle - Curse the Dawn is still my fav Cassie cover, but they are all gorgeous.

I didn't end up reading Sisters Red, but you've peaked my curiosity now :)

  3. The sweetly cover scares me! Glad it isn't the final one.

  4. I REALLY like the cover of Wolfsbane, and I think the cover for Illusions is pretty cool, too!!

  5. Nayuleska - I think its brilliant. I hope it doesn't change much for the final cover.

brynnerox - Wolfsbane looks amazing. Did you read Nightshade yet? And I like Illusions, but I feel like it's just a flower. Wings was perfect because the petals were actually shaped the wings. Spells and now this one are a little lacking for me.

  6. Oh I'm definitely going to add Jenna Black and Sonya Bateman to my TBR list. My favorite has to be Sonya's for the same reasons you listed.

  7. I really dig the new layout for the new cover titles. It's much easier on the eyes, and I don't have to click anything to get a good view of the covers.

I adore the cover for 'Sweetly'. It took me a minute, but I finally got why you thought it was so great and I definitely agree!

  8. Wolfbane cover is perfect.

That has to be the best Cassie cover yet. The red dress is a nice change in the black dress line up.

  9. Edna - I like Sonya's cover better and better the more I look at it, plus I loved MASTER OF NONE, so high hopes for book 2.

GB - Oh good. I like including all the info b/c I'd want to know it all, but the layout can get tricky. Glad this is better. The SWEETLY cover has that illusion factor that I adore.

Shera - Both great. I do wonder why the Cassie covers have changed from the more dark mysterious look of the first two...
