Jason Chan has once again done a beautiful job, and I can’t wait to get this poster for my wall right next to Geist. There is the Rossin and there is Sorcha- this time using the cleansing flame, Pyet.

My Thoughts: Thumbs up
Wow.  And I didn’t think they’d be able to top Geist, but this is gorgeous!

I think this cover looks cool, but I don’t love it for this series.  I feel like the last 2 covers and now this one have been going through an identity crisis.

Here it is, folks, in all its bad ass glory:

My Thoughts: Thumbs up
So I don’t exactly know what this book it.  A modern looking heroine and magic (from the description).  It’s being described as bugpunk.  Anyone care to enlighten me?  Whatever it is, it looks cool.

Nyx had already been to hell. One prayer more or less wouldn't make any difference...

I love this.  The smoothness of her face and hands juxtaposed with the knarled branch/hand creeping over her shoulder.  The sepia tone is perfect too.

Description:

Before Briony's stepmother died, she made sure Briony blamed herself for all the family's hardships. Now Briony has worn her guilt for so long it's become a second skin. She often escapes to the swamp, where she tells stories to the Old Ones, the spirits who haunt the marshes. But only witches can see the Old Ones, and in her village, witches are sentenced to death. Briony lives in fear her secret will be found out, even as she believes she deserves the worst kind of punishment.

Then Eldric comes along with his golden lion eyes and mane of tawny hair. He's as natural as the sun, and treats her as if she's extraordinary. And everything starts to change. As many secrets as Briony has been holding, there are secrets even she doesn't know.

My Thoughts: Thumbs down
I really can’t stand the Sookie covers.  Too folksy/whimsical for me.

Description:
"With her knack for being in trouble's way, Sookie witnesses the firebombing of Merlotte's, the bar where she works. Since Sam Merlotte is now known to be two-natured, suspicion falls immediately on the anti-shifters in the area. But Sookie suspects otherwise and she and Sam work together to uncover the culprit - and the twisted motive for the attack. But her attention is divided. Though she can't 'read' vampires, Sookie knows her lover Eric Northman and his 'child' Pam well - and she realises that they are plotting to kill the vampire who is now their master. Gradually, she is drawn into the plot -which is much more complicated than she knows. Caught up in the politics of the vampire world, Sookie will learn that she is as much of a pawn as any ordinary human - and that there is a new Queen on the board . . . "

Beautiful imagery of the burning calla lily with the smoke.

Description:

Ashline Wilde never received an instruction manual on how to be a 16-year-old Polynesian volcano goddess. If she had, it might have contained helpful warnings such as:
• Dreaming about your (thankfully) mortal boyfriend may cause your bed to spontaneously combust
• Oven mitts should be worn at all times during heavy make-out sessions
Instead, Ash has to learn these life lessons the hard way as her dormant powers erupt at the most awkward times. In the wake of a hometown tragedy, Ash transfers to Blackwood Academy, a boarding school nestled in California’s redwoods, where a group of fellow gods-on-earth have mysteriously convened. As if sophomore year couldn’t get any worse, her storm goddess older sister, the wild and unpredictable Eve, resurfaces to haunt Ashline. With a war between the gods looming over Blackwood, Ash must master the fire smoldering within her before she clashes with her sister one final time, which leads us to life-lesson #3:
• When warm and cold fronts collide, there’s guaranteed to be a storm.

  1. I don't really like it when they put actual people on covers, but most of these are gorgeous! Eternal and Wildfire are my favorites though =)

  2. I love these posts of yours. I don't know how often people tell you that, but I can see how much work must go into them and they are so well laid out. :)

Also, I always discover something new. I'm generally pretty good with forthcoming adult UF and YA, but I hadn't heard of CHIME and it's now firmly on my radar. Oh, and that's the first time I've seen the new Vicki Pettersson cover - it's my favourite since book 3. Totally agree with you about the publisher not being able to make up their minds on the visual direction they want to take this series.

    Cheers!

  4. Here's hoping the Zodiac series pulls out of its identity crisis. As long as the covers don't visit the ugliness of book 4 I'm happy.

WildeFire has my vote as the best. It's just such a unique idea.

  5. Simay - I don't mind people, but I prefer them slightly stylized like the Mercy Thompson covers.

Karen - Thank you so much! That is always nice to hear. And Chime looks awesome, doesn't it? The Zodiac covers had a cool distinct look for the first three books that I really liked given the dark comic book concept. The last 3 are pretty, but less unique.

Shera - Book 4 looked so much like a Yasmine Galenorn cover. I really miss the original style of this series.
