| A callback to the posture on KITTY TAKES A HOLIDAY, both it and the wolf look beautiful. | Hands down my favorite Kitty cover ever! It's a slightly sexier look for Kitty which I like over the casual tee and faded jeans that she's been wearing. |

| Description: It's November of 1977: The punk rock movement is a year old and the brutal thirty-year war referred to as "The Troubles" is escalating. According to Irish tradition, the month of November is a time for remembrance of the dead. Liam Kelly, in particular, wishes it were otherwise. Born a Catholic in Londonderry/Derry, Northern Ireland, Liam, a former wheelman for the Provisional IRA, is only half mortal. His father is Bran, a puca — a shape-shifting, ghostlike creature — and a member of the ancient Fianna. Liam must dodge both the Royal Ulster Constabulary, who want him for the car bombing that killed Constable Haddock, and the Provisional IRA, who want him for the deaths of Éamon Walsh and several others found ripped apart in a burned down farmhouse in Armagh. | The bright blue seems to be at odds with the haunting center image, but that by no means detracts from the overall loveliness. Put this on the shelf next to book one, and this series has me hooked on cover art alone. | This is mournful some how. It looks like it was done in oils which gives it softness around the edges. Beautiful. |

| Description: Tory and her friends are celebrating the success of a second mission to aid WWII Britain when an urgent summons calls them back to their own time: Napoleon is on the brink of invading England. Can a handful of young mages stop an army? In desperation, Merlin’s Irregulars ask Rebecca Weiss,

| Love the progression from bare, bright DARK MIRROR to the dark mysteriousness of DARK DESTINY. | The continuity between these covers is perfect. The colors and locations etc change, but the girl in the cloak links them all. This is probably my least fav of the three, but not bad overall. |

| Description: There’s normal, and then there’s paranormal, and neither is Quinlan Lacey’s cup of Diet Coke. Quinn’s life is a red carpet of weird fashions, hip bands, random parties, and chilling by the pool with her on-and-off BF Libby. There’s also her boring job (minimum wage), a crushed out co-worker (way too interested), her summer plans (nada), and her parents (totally clueless). Then one night she meets gorgeous James, and Quinn’s whole world turns crazy, Technicolor, 3-D, fireworks, whatever. But with good comes bad, and unfortunately Quinn’s new romance brings with it some majorly evil baggage. LA is crawling with gangs of the undead, all aching to drain something. Now, to make things right, Quinn has to do a lot of things wrong. More…

| Very simple, but well finished. I particularly like the blood in the water. | Too plain for me. I do like the watery effect, but just a red heart isn't enough for me. |

As their feelings grow, Griffon reveals their common bond as members of the Akhet—an elite group of people who can remember past lives and use their collected wisdom for the good of the world. | This one has a little bit of a “self-pub” vibe with the simplicity and the soft focus, but I like the symmetry of the title and how the lighting on the center image pops. | Beautiful title detailing & it's great to see Bloomsbury clearly not whitewashing this. |

| Description: Half-werewolf, half-Aedh Risa Jones can enter the realm between life and death, and she can see the Reapers who collect the souls of the dead. Now, she is using her gifts—and the investigative know-how of a man who broke her heart—to find a cabal searching for the power to control time, reality, and fate. And this is besides her work for the Vampire Council, half of whom want her dead. But for now the Council needs her alive. Someone is killing blood-whore addicted vampires, and Risa must find the guilty party. If she succeeds, she may finally convince the council to lift the execution order on her life. But before she succeeds, she must first survive…

| Maybe it’s an artifact of enlarging the cover flat, but the model has a comically derpy expression on her face. Despite the fact that the posture is similar to the gorgeous ARCHANGEL’S KISS cover, that cover makes the angel look predatory and elegant. What a difference a head-tilt can make. | This is a departure from the look of the previous two covers, but I like it. It looks almost like the Guild-Hunter covers, although slightly more stylized. Beautiful wingspan. |

Which are your Best and Worst?

Not really liking any of these =(
ReplyDeleteI like Drain You but hate the font of the title!
@Jodie - Have you voted in the cover art awards yet? Either way, go peruse some other covers to cleanse the palette. Hopefully next week's crop is more to your liking.
ReplyDeleteIs it me or is the Arthur cover trying to mimic Archangel's Consort by Nalini Singh?
ReplyDelete@Jackie - I don't know if it's an intentional mimic (that whole "crouch on a ledge" thing works for Batman and gargoyles, too), but the resemblance is striking. I think I disliked this one because it seemed so much less dramatic than ARCHANGEL'S CONSORT, which I adored.
ReplyDelete@Jackie - Just caught the change from KISS to CONSORT... I agree that's a better comparison. Looks like I remembered the ledge more than the cover model's posture. Both have the crouch, but CONSORT is more of the "head on" angle like above.
