This is it!  Today we start voting in the 2010 Urban Fantasy Cover Art Awards.  This is the one time each year where you are actually encouraged to judge a book by it’s cover.  Your opinion is everything, so everyone who votes will be entered to win some amazing books provided by the nominated authors/publishers!  Here’s how everything works:

Nominations & Categories

Nominations took place in November by a panel of nearly 50 experts (bloggers, reviewers, artists, authors, publishers etc.) to narrow down the hundreds of paranormal titles released between Jan 1st-Dec 31st 2010 to the top five in the following fifteen categories:
  • Best Anthology Cover
  • Best Foreign (non US) Cover
  • Best Paranormal YA Cover
  • Best Paranormal Steampunk Cover
  • Best Object Cover
  • Best Male Cover
  • Best Female Cover
  • Best Duo Cover
  • Best Male w/ Animal Cover
  • Best Female w/ Animal Cover
  • Most Unique Cover
  • Best Debut Cover
  • Best Covers in a Series
  • Best Sneak Peak Cover for 2011
  • Cover of the Year 2010

Voting

Voting will be counted using the same third party survey site that I used last year to ensure voter privacy,  full result displays, and to be able to handle a large number of votes (over 2500 last year and I’m betting there will be quite a few more voters this year).  Winners will be announced on January 1, 2011. See below for the voters ballot.

If you have any questions please check out the Awards FAQ from last year which is essentially the same for this year.  Feel free to contact me too!

  1. Hi Abigail :)
    What a wonderful contest...
although it took heart-breaking to choose just ONE cover amidst the glorious bounty.
I posted about this & Tweeted too.
I hope everyone checks out these covers (& your site)
    All the best,

  3. Great idea! I just voted... it was tough to choose from all of the great covers! Best of luck to them all!

  4. Phew... That was a bunch of tough choices! That was not so nice to put Firelight & Nightshade against each other like that. ;D They are both so good! And the Female Covers... just cruel! ;D

All are great covers. I think they all are winners before we even come down to the end. All are amazing!

  5. Woot! Woot! I've been looking forward to this all year. It was so hard picking.

  6. Harder to pick this year than last but still fun, thanks for taking the time to set this up for us Abigail it was a lot of work on your part!

  7. Forgive me for dampening all the enthusiasm around this contest, and truly some of these covers feature some great artwork, but am I really the only one to notice the complete absence of any covers featuring people of color? I have seldom seen such a celebration of whiteness.

  8. RK - I know! Not a bad one in the bunch :)

Jen D - I am such a cover art junkie myself, so I love this!

Scoot - Already over 600 voters and it looks like a lot of people are having a tough time choosing. More than one categories has covers that are separated by only a single vote!

Melissa - I feel your pain. I'm just glad I didn't have to do the nominating :)

Giada - I know. Sneak Peak category is the one I'd have the most trouble choosing between.

    Stacey - Thanks for voting!

Shera - I've been looking forward to it too! This last week was the worst when all the nominations were finished and I had to wait until I could open voting :)

Jackie B - I had worked out a lot of the bugs last year, so it was much less work setting everything up. Thanks for voting!

Anonymous - nearly 50 experts nominated the final covers, and there are several featuring people of color/non white: BLAMLESS (Italian), FIREWALKER (Native American), SILVER BORNE & The Mercy Thompson series & RIVER MARKED (Native American), HAUNTED HONEYMOON (Hispanic)... I know there are more, but a complete absence of people of color is completely inaccurate.

  11. So incredibly difficult! The added bonus is I now have a whole new Christmas list because some of these covers are entirely new to me. Hooray! More books for me. I might even try a few of the YA titles...such pretty covers.

  13. Anna - There are so many I still need to read. I'm trying to get to as many of the nominees this month. Should be fun :)

Midnyte Reader - Me too! The artists responsible do amazing work.

  14. Oh, such gorgeous covers! I know I'm echoing a lot of other people when I say...SO hard to choose but lovely to see all the beautiful artwork. :) Thanks so much for the great giveaway.

  19. This is great. Thanks for the hard work! It really was tough to choose ;) I did have a problem though; there was only one choice for the series covers to click on. All the pictures were there; however, only the Torment series had a listing beneath them before it moved on to the next category. I would have voted for Melissa Marr's series if it had let me.

  20. Never mind! I guess it was just my internet connection not letting the page load completely. Weird... Anyway, thanks again for the hard work!
