Book Description

Live fast, fight hard and if you have to die then take as many of your enemies with you as you can. That is the Amazon credo and it was one Samia lived and died by. Now in contemporary New Orleans, the immortal Amazon warrior is about to learn that there’s a worse evil coming to slaughter mankind than she’s ever faced before.

Shapeshifter Dev Peltier has stood guard at the front of Sanctuary for almost two hundred years and in that time, he’s seen it all. Or so he thought. Now their enemies have discovered a new source of power- one that makes a mockery of anything faced to date.

The war is on and Dev and Sam are guarding ground zero. But in order to win, they will have to break the most cardinal of all rules and pray it doesn’t unravel the universe as we know it.

 Review

NO MERCY latest in a long line of books featuring all manner of paranormal creatures fighting evil and falling in love in the process.  At this point in the series there are countless characters, tons of intersecting romances, and a dizzying villainous infrastructure made up of gods, demons, and a host of mythological creatures.  Yes, some of the finer nuances of the series will be lost on new readers, as well as ongoing storylines involving some of the more powerful reoccurring characters, but the good news is that you don’t have to have read the entire Dark-Hunter series to enjoy NO MERCY

The initial introductions of the two main characters was the weakest part of NO MERCY. They both came across as tired clichés that have been reused many times in the Romance genre. Dev, deep despite his shallow womanizing exterior has been bouncing from bed to bed all his life (hundreds of years since he is a were-bear) because he doesn’t think he deserves love.  And Sam, the battle worn Dark-Hunter who enjoys engaging in verbal foreplay but shrinks away from love because she only has room in her heart for vengeance (not to mention her psychometric ‘gift’ which prevents her from touching objects or people without painful bombardments of their emotions and history).

When these two meet, the attraction hits them both like a truck and it’s not long before they succumb.  The real problems occur after, when they realize for many reasons that they can never be together.  This is the point where they broke free of their clichéd personas and developed into real characters with brutal back stories and potentially bleak futures.  A quest involving a famous legendary object and the threat of a demonic invasion spiced things up quite a bit too.

Overall, NO MERCY is a fast fun read with a steamy romance, plenty of shapeshifters, and a supernatural brawl of mythic proportions.  The characters took their time coming to life, and a few of the more convenient plot developments are never explained, but by the end of the book I was hooked on these characters and absorbed by this world.  I’ll be visiting the Dark-Hunter series again soon.

Sexual Content: Several graphic sex scenes.

  2. Sparklynearsy - Well you have the advantage over me. But I can't wait to dive into this world if the other books are anything like this :)
