Book Description:
When Charley is rudely awakened in the middle of the night by her best friend who tells her to get dressed quickly and tosses clothes out the closet at her, she can’t help but wonder what Cookie’s up to. Leather scrunch boots with a floral miniskirt? Together? Seriously?
After dragging Charley out the door and trying unsuccessfully to stuff her into a trunk—mostly ‘cause Charley pitches a fit—Cookie finally explains that a friend of hers named Mimi disappeared five days earlier and that she just got a text from her setting up a meet at a coffee shop downtown. They show up at the coffee shop, but no Mimi. After a brief investigation, Charley finds a message on the bathroom wall. Mimi left a clue, a woman’s name. They head to the parking lot only to be accosted by a frantic husband with a gun. After some soothing words and a few deep breathing exercises, the husband, aka Warren Jacobs, hires Charley to find his wife. He explains that his wife had been acting strange since she found out an old friend of hers from high school had been found murdered a couple weeks prior. The same woman Mimi had named in her message.
Meanwhile, Reyes Alexander Farrow (otherwise known as the Son of Satan. Yes. Literally) has left his corporeal body and is haunting Charley. He’s left his body because he’s being tortured by demons who want to lure Charley closer. But Reyes can’t let that happen. Because if the demons get to Charley, they’ll have a portal to heaven. And if they have a portal to heaven…well, let’s just say it wouldn’t be pretty. Can Charley handle hot nights with Reyes and even hotter days tracking down a missing woman? Will Cookie ever get a true fashion sense? And is there enough coffee and chocolate in the world to fuel them as they do?

Book Description:
Sixteen-year-old Catlyn Youngblood isn’t happy about moving to Lost Lake, Florida. While she’s used to living a gypsy’s life with her brothers, there is something very odd about this small backwoods town. But Trick, her oldest brother and guardian, wants to settle down on their new farm and breed horses, and this time Cat may even have a chance to make some friends.
After a disastrous first day at school, Cat meets Jesse Raven, a boy who like her rides his horse after midnight. At first Jesse seems as unreceptive as the rest of Lost Lake, until Cat discovers he's just as lonely and friendless as she is. Troubling warnings to avoid the wealthy, reclusive Ravens worry Cat, as do more problems at school, but not enough to stop meeting Jesse.
Lost Lake is a town of many secrets, however, and when a terrifying attack exposes Cat and Jesse's friendship, their families go to extremes to separate them. Now Cat must unravel the tangled pasts of the Ravens and the Youngbloods so she can understand the strange connection that brought her and Jesse together -- and why someone is deliberately trying to tear them apart.

Book Description:
Generations of werewolves have been secretly residing in a secluded valley a stone’s throw from Grundy, Alaska. So when a snooping Outsider comes to Grundy to investigate rumors of lycanthropic shenanigans in the area, the valley’s pack Alpha, Maggie Graham, resolves to chase him away, even if doing so takes a quick bite in the butt.
What a pity that researcher Nick Thatcher turns out to be so drool-worthy, and that his kisses make Maggie want to sit up and beg. Maggie just can’t seem to convince Nick to leave . . . and even worse, she can’t convince herself to stay away from him. Cross-species dating is problem enough for a harried Alpha female, but on top of that, a rival group of werewolves is trying to move into the valley.
With interpack war threatening, Maggie can’t afford to be distracted. Combining romance and a career can be tough for anyone; for a werewolf in love with a human, it may be disastrous..

| First off, HOW FIERCE IS MY GIRL SOPHIE'S JACKET? I want it so very badly. Also, I was VERY psyched about all the fire on the bottom half of the cover. Not because I'm a pyro- well, not just because of that- but because fire plays a pretty big part in DEMONGLASS. Also, it makes a nice contrast to the water on HEX HALL's cover. I also love that it's Veddy British, what with the brolly, and the cobblestones, and all, since a good 90% of the book takes place Across the Pond. And I love that the Sophie on HEX HALL has this expression that was all, "Um... como se huh?" and THIS Sophie is more like, "BRING IT." So basically, I am in love with this cover, and I want to spin around on a hilltop with it, and write sonnets about how shiny its hair is. And I hope all of you love it, too! :) |

Book Description:
Sophie Mercer thought she was a witch.
That was the whole reason she was sent to Hex Hall, a reform school for delinquent Prodigium (aka witches, shapeshifters, and fairies). But that was before she discovered the family secret, and that her hot crush, Archer Cross, is an agent for The Eye, a group bent on wiping Prodigium off the face of the earth.
Turns out, Sophie’s a demon, one of only two in the world—the other being her father. What’s worse, she has powers that threaten the lives of everyone she loves. Which is precisely why Sophie decides she must go to London for the Removal, a dangerous procedure that will destroy her powers.
But once Sophie arrives she makes a shocking discovery. Her new friends? They’re demons too. Meaning someone is raising them in secret with creepy plans to use their powers, and probably not for good. Meanwhile, The Eye is set on hunting Sophie down, and they’re using Archer to do it. But it’s not like she has feelings for him anymore. Does she?

Book Description:
In this new volume, three of Francesca Lia Block's works are collected together for the very first time.
In The Rose and the Beast, nine classic fairy tales are turned inside out in classic Block style. Kirkus Reviews said about this Los Angeles Times bestseller, "Block uses language like a jeweled sword, glittering as it cuts to the heart."
In Psyche in a Dress, the Psyche we all know from Greek mythology finds herself in California. Tempted by gods and demons she must discover a way to find herself again.
And in Echo, a retelling of the story of Echo and Narcissus, Echo meets a broken angel, vampires, and the fairy daughter of a rock on her quest for true love.
Love and magic and believing in ourselves are timeless themes, and this new collection will introduce Francesca Lia Block to a whole new generation of readers waiting to fall under her spell

Book Description:
A fallen angel haunted by her past. Yearning for her immortal beloved. Forever searching for answers. Who will show her Mercy?
Mercy has lost herself. She can’t count how many times she’s “woken up” in a new body, and assumed a new life, only to move on again and again. During the day she survives in the human world on instinct and at night her dreams are haunted by him. Mercy’s heart would know him anywhere. But her memory refuses to cooperate.
But this time is different. When Mercy wakes up she meets Ryan, an eighteen year old reeling from the loss of his twin sister who was kidnapped two years ago. Everyone else has given up hope, but Ryan believes his sister is still alive. Using a power she doesn’t fully comprehend, Mercy realizes that Ryan is right. His sister is alive and together they can find her. For the first time since she can remember, Mercy has a purpose; she can help. So she doesn’t understand why the man in her dreams cautions her not to interfere. But as Ryan and Mercy come closer to solving the dark mystery of his sister’s disappearance, danger looms just one step behind.
Will Mercy be able to harness her true self and extraordinary power in time?
The first in a dazzling new series, Mercy masterfully weaves romance, mystery and the supernatural into a spell-binding tale
I’m torn between SHADY LADY, DEMONGLASS, and MERCY as my favorites. So any new to you covers? Which one is your favorite?

Hi Abigail - I just love these little cover lots you do. Have I told you that? Well, thanks.
ReplyDeleteI'm glad you're getting into Singh's Psy-Changeling series, because it is sooo excellent. It's one of my favorite PNR series, even if I am a few books behind. I got excited because I think Kiss of Snow is finally the story we've all been waiting for... the leader of the Snowdancers. Awesome.
The Demon Glass cover is cool. I'm glad they kept with the theme from Hex Hall, and even though the story inside wasn't spellbinding, I might read the sequel just for the cover. Yeah, I get sucked in by good cover art.
American Vampire sounds intriguing. I believe Jennifer Armintrout writes that dark UF romance series, and book one impressed me (the name is escaping me at the moment and I'm being totally lazy). Bummer. It doesn't come out until Feb.
Definitely the Mercy cover! Although the model looks a little like that Ghost Whisperer chick at first glance. I like Roses & Bones next! Love the green eyeshadow against the dark hair and pale skin.
ReplyDeleteThanks for doing these book cover arts! I always look forward to them and they start off my day happy :)
Rebecca - Hey thanks! I love hearing about the upcoming books too. Although I do hate waiting once I discover them.
ReplyDeleteI am liking the Psy series and I didn't expect to. I didn't love the covers and I'm not usually big on psychic powers. I only started the series because of a short in the BURNING UP anthology. But I'm hooked now.
I haven't read HEX HALL. Honestly your review made it a take it or leave it for me, but the DEMON GLASS cover is giving me second thoughts. I'm so shallow, I know.
Jennifer Armintrout also writes the PNR Blood Ties series and the YA Lightworld/Darkworld series. Are you thinking of THE TURNING?
anocturnalbookworm - Jennifer Love Hewitt? I didn't notice the resemblance before, but now that you mention it, the MERCY girl does look like her.
Just my effed-up brain, or does it look like Amy Adams is on the cover of SHADY LADY?
ReplyDeleteTez - I actually think she looks more like Isla Fisher (the other red head actress from that movie Confessions of a Shopaholic).
ReplyDeleteOh I love all these book covers! They are totally amazing. I think I really like the Mercy on. Wow! Thanks for sharing all these covers. Its cool to see them all and what to look forward too. :)
ReplyDeleteMelissa - There is another version of the MERCY cover over on goodreads. Not nearly as good as this one IMO.
