Book Description

I used to think my sister and I were just two nice southern girls who'd get married in a few years and settle down to a quiet life. Then I discovered that Alina and I descend, not from good wholesome southern stock, but from an ancient Celtic bloodline of powerful sidhe-seers, people who can see the Fae. Not only can I see the terrifying otherworldly race, but I can sense the sacred Fae relics that hold the deadliest of their magic.

When my sister was found dead in a trash-filled alley in Dublin, I came over to get answers. Now all I want is revenge. And after everything I've learned about myself, I know I have the power to get it....

MacKayla Lane's ordinary life underwent a complete makeover when she landed on Ireland's shores and was plunged into a world of deadly sorcery and ancient secrets.

In her fight to stay alive, Mac must find the Sinsar Dubh-a million-year-old book of the blackest magic imaginable, which holds the key to power over both the worlds of the Fae and of Man. Pursued by Fae assassins, surrounded by mysterious figures she knows she cannot trust, Mac finds herself torn between two deadly and irresistible men: V'lane, the insatiable Fae who can turn sensual arousal into an obsession for any woman, and the ever-inscrutable Jericho Barrons, a man as alluring as he is mysterious.

For centuries the shadowy realm of the Fae has coexisted with that of humans. Now the walls between the two are coming down, and Mac is the only thing that stands between them....

 Review

I fell in love with these characters and this world in DarkFever.  The story was dark, sexy, and broke from so many of the UF/PNR pitfalls that I nearly shouted with joy after reading it.  BLOODFEVER picks up immediately after Darkfever (Mac still has the bruises from her battle with John Jr.) and continues to deliver a creepy cool world that scares and seduces with equal measure.

I’ll confess to being more than a little curious about V’lane, the death-by-sex fae (I’m sure I’m not the only one), and really hoped that he would turn out to be more that a clever plot device as the series progressed.  In BLOODFEVER, he doesn’t lose his lethal sexuality, but he does gain depth and an element of humanity that made him infinitely more appealing in my book.

And while I was already a fan of Mac, her growth in BLOODFEVER made me like her all the more.  She has long since shed the ignorant, frivolous southern belle skin she wore when she first arrived in Ireland.  She learns, she adapts, and she never wallows.  Talk about a woman after my own heart.

I gave the first Fever book a perfect rating and the only reason that BLOODFEVER isn’t getting the same rating is because the overall plot this time out wasn’t as strong.  Mac is still hunting her sister’s killer and working as Barrons’ private OOP (objects of power) detector, but there isn’t a main storyline apart from that.  Mac does make contact with other sidhe-seers and V’lane does more that drip sex, but other than that, BLOODFEVER is more character driven and seems to be setting things up for a juicy tale in the next book, Faefever.  My review will be up next month as we continue our countdown to the release of Shadowfever in January 2011!

Sexual Content: References to sex. A couple scenes of sensuality.

  6. I heard about the cliff hanger in book three and decided to wait till the last two are released so I can get the full effect of reading them in sequence plus if I didn't the suspense would surely kill me. I can't wait - I love this series.

  7. Princess Allie - Oh no, don't tell me that! I want each book to be better than the one before it. I'm just about ready to start Faefever and hopefully jump into Dreamfever soon after. And then I'll have to endure the wait for Shadowfever.

Rory - I hadn't heard about the cliffhanger in book 3. I have zero patience so I doubt I'll be able to wait like you. Hopefully it won't be too bad of a cliff hanger :)
