My Thoughts: |
| The dark color palette and foil lettering didn't scan in so well, but you'll have to take my word for it that the cover of Eugenie's next adventure looks awesome…The representation of the crown is spot-on, but each time I glance at this cover, my brain thinks she's holding a tambourine. Love it. Also: Eugenie is going to cut someone. - Richelle | This is probably my least favorite of the series so far. The red is over saturated and it does look like she’s carrying a tambourine. |

| Hey everyone! The cover for Book 4 is here!!! Actually, I've had these for a while, but wanted to focus more on Book 3 since it was just coming out at the time. Then, well I've gotta be honest, I spaced it until I saw it on Amazon. Anyway...here's the cover for Skinners #4. - Marcus | Awesome! Almost like a screenshot from Resident Evil 4. |

Book Description:
A legendary Skinner has passed. Among the articles he left behind are runes, potions, and powerful weapons to aid in the ongoing war against the unspeakable creatures that prowl the shadows outside normal human consciousness. But there is something else: the remains of a terrifying beast no other Skinner has ever encountered. And it isn't dead.
Skinners, partners, lovers, Cole Warnecki and Paige Strobel are well armed with the tools the late Jonah Lancroft provided. But even his best weapons may not be enough to defeat the monstrosity they now face. A new terror has risen up to infect them both with its virulent malevolence, even as Paige confronts the secrets of her astonishing past. The purest evil walks the world again—the First Deceiver, humankind's darkest nightmare, the self-proclaimed King of the Full Bloods.

| N/A | See you later to the fellows as the chick is solo for the first time in this series. I like the cool blue wash and I’m curious about the weapon in her hand. |

Love the cover for Vampire Uprising. Looks like it's about to go down...
ReplyDeleteRichelle Mead's new cover looks ackward. Almost like an Ellora's Cave cover. I will like the foil font. The Vampire Rising looks like something from Serenity.
ReplyDeleteYeah, the Iron Crowned cover is totally overdone. The contrast is too high, the colors are too saturated, and the composition is sorta claustrophobic (the text is too large and crammed all together).
ReplyDeleteJen - It does look fun. I haven't read that series yet, but I might have to start.
ReplyDeletePrincess Allie - Yeah, I'm not a fan either. Too bad since I thought the first two were very cool.
Marg - We seem to be unanimous in panning that one so far. The overall effect is too harsh.
Wow! The new cover for Mead's series is so dissappionting. *Sigh* Guess it's hard to beat the previous ones.
ReplyDeleteThe covers for the Skinners books are all so fun!
The Starfire cover is a nice releaf from the other ones.
Shera - I haven't read the Mead series yet, and if not for the first two covers I might have passed it by based on the art. But I do like the other two posted above.
ReplyDeleteI think Richelle Mead's publishing company are now paying a lot of attention to her 'Dark Swan' series (because 'Vampire Academy' and 'Georgina Kincaid' are both ending in 2011, while Dark Swan has more books planned). Maybe the publishers went a little nuts with the gold foil and fancy colours. I also wish Eugenie had stayed consistent... it looks like 3 different models have been used.
ReplyDeleteDanielle - That's a good point about the publishers motivation. Could be. And it really does look like different models. I hate when they do that.
ReplyDeleteI put off reading Thorn Queen for months, but I absolutely loved it once I read it. Now I can't wait for Iron Crowned to come out. Great cover, thanks.
ReplyDeleteScooper - Great endorsement! I've been on the fence with that series, but I'm loving her vampire academy books so I'll be picking these up.
ReplyDeleteThere is a scene towards the end of book 2 which is so well written that I now feel invested in the series. I just kinda stopped with Eugenie. When she started breathing again, so did I. The situation/story line is handled so well it hooked me.
ReplyDeleteScooper - Well said. I'm crazy curious now. Thanks!
