My guest today is Seressia Glass author of the Shadowchasers urban fantasy series featuring antiquities expert Kira Solomon who moonlights as a Shadowchaser hunting those Fallen from the Light. The second book in the series, SHADOW CHASE, releases on July 27, 2010, and Seressia is here to tell us all about her Egyptian mythology infused world. And to sweeten the visit, S&S is providing two copies of SHADOW CHASE as a giveaway! See details below.

Seressia Glass has always been a voracious reader, cutting her teeth on comics, cereal boxes, and anything else at hand. Writing her own stories soon followed. After winning the national "Living the Dream" essay contest for the inaugural Martin Luther King, Jr. Holiday celebration in her hometown of Atlanta, Seressia realized her ability to move people with her words. Today, her fiction features diverse people realizing the universal dreams of love and acceptance. Stories have appeared recently in Vegas Bites: A Werewolf Romance Anthology edited by by bestselling author L. A. Banks and its sequels Vegas Bites and Vegas Bites Back. She's also published four romance novels, once of which, Through the Fire, was chosen for Black Expressions Book Club. Shadowblade is her fantasy debut. When not writing, Seressia is an instructional designer for an international home improvement company who loves to belly dance and watch anime.
In the beginning there was everything, at once, in one form. The All could not be contained in one shell, and thus was rent in two. Order and Chaos, Light and Shadow, Good and Evil. Each are necessary to maintain the Universal Balance.
Though the two are each halves of a whole, they forever strive against one another. The children of Chaos fought against the children of Order, ripping a tear in the Veil of reality. Some of those beings fell through to our plane of existence, losing corporeal form in the process. How fortunate, then, that they found a race capable of holding them…
What you've just read is a bit of the world myth of my new urban fantasy series, Shadowchasers. For this series, I wanted to presuppose one concept: every myth has a basis in reality. So my world is populated with beings who fall in the middle of the Universal Balance, not born good or evil but able to slide either way. This assortment includes humans, most mythical creatures, and even some beings that humans would consider evil like vampires, were-creatures, the fae. Most of these mythical creatures are hybrid offspring of those ancient beings and humans, though occasionally some of those original Fallen appear in human hosts known as Avatars.
Based in a facsimile of modern-day Atlanta, the Shadowchasers series features my heroine, Kira Solomon, who has a really harsh version of ESP--she can read objects by touching them, reviewing details of the owner's lives. If she touches a living thing, however, she downloads all their thoughts, emotions, and memories. Unfortunately, she also drains their energy in the process. She doesn't know anything about her parents, and after a childhood tragedy was given to the Balm of Gilead, the leader of a centuries-old clandestine group known as the Gilead Commission. The Commission trained Kira to be a Shadowchaser, a sort of uber bounty hunter who policies the supernatural community.
She's managed to carve out a life for herself as a freelance antiquities expert specializing in ancient Egyptian artifacts. She also chooses to be a follower of Ma'at, the Egyptian goddess of Truth and Order. In the books, you'll see a lot of Egyptian ritual and mythology, embellished for storytelling purposes. You'll also see some of the Egyptian pantheon, and a few African gods thrown in for good measure, especially Anansi, a West African demigod who enjoys good food, a good tale, and bad women.
And how can I tell you about my series and not mention Khefar, a four-thousand year-old Nubian warrior, who has been tasked by Isis to save a life for every life he took after losing his family to marauders. I could tell you why he suddenly makes an appearance in Kira's life, but I'd much rather let you discover it for yourself!
Thanks Seressia for stopping by. Come back anytime.

Two (2) copies of SHADOW CHASE by Seressia Glass

Book Description
As a Shadowchaser, Kira Solomon has been trained to serve the Light, dispatch the Fallen, and prevent the spread of chaos. It’s a deadly job, and Kira knows the horror of spilling innocent blood. But now she has a new role, as the Hand of Ma’at, the Egyptian Goddess of Truth and Order, and an assignment that might just redeem her.
A fellow Shadowchaser has gone missing, and so has a unique artifact imbued with astonishing magic. Unless the Vessel of Nun is returned, it will cause destruction beyond anything the modern world has seen. Kira’s got a team at her back, including Khefar, a near-immortal Nubian warrior who’s already died for her once. But as complicated as her feelings for him are, they’re nothing compared to the difficulties of the task she faces. And the only way to defeat the enemy is to trust in a power she can barely control, and put her life—and her soul—on the line.
