30 November 2011

It’s the last Friday of the month which means it’s time to check out what we’re going to be reading next month in:

Here is this month’s conversation snippet from Abigail and her TBR Pile about their increasingly dysfunctional relationship.  See all the December new releases below:

Me: Nope.  Don’t start with me today.  I can tell you’re about ready to go off on me and it’s not going to happen.

My TBR Pile: ‘Go off’ on you?

Me: You know, yelling, screaming, throwing a temper tantrum.

My TBR Pile: Do you have such a low opinion of me?

Me: I have the exact opinion of you that you want me to have.

My TBR Pile: Which is?

Me: That you like to yell, scream, and throw temper tantrums.  And threaten my life on a regular basis.

My TBR Pile: I’ll concede the latter, but temper tantrums? Lying is never an attractive quality in a woman.

Me: A ha! So you admit you’re trying to kill me.

My TBR Pile:  Now you accuse me of impotence?

Me: What conversation are you having? We’re talking about how you keep trying to kill me for trivial reasons.

My TBR Pile: I was referring to your use of the word ‘trying.’ Had I truly wanted you dead, I’d be having this conversation with your corpse right now.

Me: Uh-huh.

My TBR Pile: You mock me at your own peril.  And never again use the word trivial to refer to the abuse I suffer at your hands.

Me: You are a To Be Read pile.  What exactly is it that I’m supposed to do with you besides add books to you?  Did you ever stop to think that without me, you wouldn’t exist?

My TBR Pile:  Did you ever stop to think that without me, your pitifully useless existence would have even less purpose than it does now?

Me: This is exactly what I didn’t want to happen today.  I’m sick of fighting with you.  The fact of the matter is that we are stuck with each other.  For better or worse—

My TBR Pile:  Til death do us part?

Me: –Plus it’s the holidays.  Can’t we just call a truce until January?

My TBR Pile: A truce.  Does that mean you are going to leave me unmolested for the entire month?

Me: Um…I don’t think you can use that word like that anymore.  It usually refers something else today.

My TBR Pile: You are avoiding the question, Abigail. Am I to be unmoles--

Me: Stop saying that.  I don’t intent to…bother you anymore than is absolutely necessary.

My TBR Pile: What a charming sentiment.  Than I agree not to kill you anymore than is absolutely necessary.

Me: [sigh]

My TBR Pile: It seems a fair trade.

Me: Um, no.  You are talking about murder. I’m talking about adding a few tiny books to you which, I hate that I have to keep reminding you, is YOUR JOB!

My TBR Pile: Since when is anything about you tiny?

Me: You know what? I wasn’t going to tell you this, but since you insist on being such an ass, I’m posting Top 12 Paranormal Picks for 2012 on Sunday.  Twelve!  That’s in addition to my regular wishlist which is rather large at the moment, what with Christmas coming and all…you should see all the books I want…

My TBR Pile: You’re going regret your flippancy.

Me: Bring it on.

Angela Mathers is plagued by visions of angels, supernatural creatures who haunt her thoughts by day and seduce her dreams by night. Newly released from a mental institution where she was locked away for two years, she hopes that her time at the Vatican’s university, the West Wood Academy, will give her a chance at a normal life. Unlike ordinary humans, Angela is a blood head — a freak, a monster, the possible fulfillment of a terrifying prophecy of overwhelming death and destruction. Only in Luz, the Vatican’s wondrous enclave, are blood heads accepted and encouraged to discover what kind of powers or special abilities they might possess.

But within West Wood, a secret coven plots, and demons and angels roam the streets searching for the key to open Raziel’s book — a secret tome from a lost archangel. Some are determined to destroy Raziel, while others, like the beautiful Supernal Israfel, one of the highest of the high, wish to free him. Since accepting a teaching position at remote Fairwick College in upstate New York, Callie McFay has experienced the same disturbingly erotic dream every night: A mist enters her bedroom, then takes the shape of a virile, seductive stranger who proceeds to ravish her in the most toe-curling, wholly satisfying ways possible. Perhaps these dreams are the result of writing her bestselling book, The Sex Lives of Demon Lovers. After all, Callie’s lifelong passion is the intersection of lurid fairy tales and Gothic literature—which is why she finds herself at Fairwick’s renowned folklore department, living in a once-stately Victorian house that, at first sight, seemed to call her name.

Lethal undercover agent Stefan Prakenskii knew a thousand ways to kills a man—and twice as many ways to pleasure a woman. That’s what made him look forward to his new mission: arrive in the coastal town of Sea Haven and insinuate himself in the life of an elusive beauty who had mysterious ties to his past, and a link to a dangerously seductive, and equally elusive master criminal who wanted only one thing: to possess her.

Judith Henderson was an artist on the rise—an ethereal, and haunted woman whose own picture-perfect beauty stirred the souls of two men who have made her their obsession. For years she has been waiting for someone to come and unlock the passion and fire within her—waiting for the right man to surrender it to. Obsidian (Lux, #1)
by Jennifer L. Armentrout

Starting over sucks.

When we moved to West Virginia right before my senior year, I’d pretty much resigned myself to thick accents, dodgy internet access, and a whole lot of boring…. until I spotted my hot neighbor, with his looming height and eerie green eyes. Things were looking up.

And then he opened his mouth.

Daemon is infuriating. Arrogant. Stab-worthy. We do not get along. At all. But when a stranger attacks me and Daemon literally freezes time with a wave of his hand, well, something…unexpected happens.

The hot alien living next door
marks me.

You heard me. Alien. Turns out Daemon and his sister have a galaxy of enemies wanting to steal their abilities, and Daemon’s touch has me lit up like the Vegas Strip. The only way I’m getting out...more

Magic of the Moonlight (Full Moon, #2)
by Ellen Schreiber

Beware of a bite under a full moon…
it will complicate your love life.

Celeste has more to worry about than a secret romance with a hot guy from the wrong side of town. That guy, Brandon, is a werewolf. With gossip and hostility swirling at school, it’s time to find a cure for his nocturnal condition, and perhaps the one person who can help is his scientist father. But what if a “cure” makes things worse and Brandon becomes a werewolf full time? And with rumors circulating that there are werewolves in Legend’s Run, is it possible that there is another among their classmates?

To keep Brandon’s secret safe, Celeste must hide her relationship with him from her best friends, but with the Moonlight Ball approaching, she must make a choice. Her dream is to go with her one true love—Brandon. But once the sun goes down, the clouds separate, and the full moon appears, could she really walk into the dance on the arm of a werewolf?

In this installment of the sumptuously romantic Full Moon series, Celeste faces her fears and her friends and finds out whether she’s strong enough to stand up for herself and her one true love.
