| I really like these covers, and the gorgeous style that almost looks like brush strokes. I like the staging of the cover model better on book one, but it look like there’s more plot elements folded into the cover on TIN SWIFT. Love the title, too! | So masculine & a really nice compliment to DEAD IRON. I do wish that the supernatural elements were represented on the cover since they are prominent in the series. |

| This cover model is channeling all sorts of Mary-Louise Parker and I’m loving it. This one is going on my TBR list for the cover alone. | I had the exact same thought about Mary-Louise Parker. Digging the dragon silhouette too. It’s going on the wish list for sure. |

Description: What if there were teens whose lives literally depended on being bad influences? This is life for sons and daughters of fallen angels in Sweet Evil. Anna, a tender-hearted southern girl, was born with the sixth sense to see and feel emotions of other people. | I do like the lighting and the way the title is arranged, but with her in an evening gown and her partner in a t-shirt, this cover doesn’t pull off the “dramatic girl in dress” look for me. | I didn’t immediately peg this as YA, but the longer I look at this the more I like it. I especially like the contrast between the light side of her cover and the dark side of his. Makes me very curious about the romance. |

| Viewing the styles side by side, I definitely prefer the modern style over the early pastel cartoons. This one is particularly great, I love the greens and teals. | I’m the exact opposite. Not a fan of the plastic Barbie covers. I vastly prefer the original styles. |

| I know it’s hard to pick a cover for an anthology, but this style is a weird mix of images and colors. I don’t like the pastels, or the juxtaposition of the soft rose against the clipart-esque bat and wolf. | There isn’t anything on this cover to get excited about. |

| I love the shadowy figures in the woods, but I would have preferred that the title wasn’t that lavender color. Maybe white like the author’s name? | I wish the figures were more prominent, but I do understand the need to feature all the characters equally since this is the end of the series…still, I’m more neutral than positive about this. |

| I like the lighting on this cover, and that plus the title font and owl gives this cover a very soft and Celtic style. The leather pants are a bit of an anachronistic touch, but the don’t ruin the over all vibe. | I could do without the leather pants too, but the soft colors and the owl are saving this for me…makes me think of the movie Ladyhawk a bit… |

| The covers for this series are so iconic, it never occurred to me to individually assess them before. The central image on this one (Sookie with stomach pains?) doesn’t work for me as much as prior motifs of leaping tigers and flying vampires. | Wow do I not like the style of these covers. The folk art look has always been a huge turn off to me and this latest installment is not different. Not a fan. |

| I think the effect was intended to make this cover model appear to blend in with the forest, but in practice it looks like he’s a floating torso erupting out of the title. I’m not a fan of the Last of the Mohicans meets demons vibe. | You are right on with the Last of the Mohicans vibe. It’s a little too soft looking…too much air brushing. He should look grittier. |

| Oddly enough, I love the mix of a shorn, spikey warrior peaking through such fantastical gates. I’d like this cover even more without the hint of a modern swimming pool. | …I think it may be the font and title detailing, but this has a very dated Romance novel feel to me. |

| I’m not a fan of this series' style over all. The cover of book two is my favorite, the cover model expressions on book one and this one are not for me. | I like the ‘idea’ behind these covers with the very saturated blues and greens, but the execution always leaves me wanting. |

Which are your Best and Worst?

thanks guys, I love this feature.
ReplyDeleteThanks once again for the list of covers, I fully agree with both of you with the Thirteen cover.
ReplyDeleteI also love this feature, and your blog in general!
ReplyDelete@Abigail - You're dead-on with the Ladyhawke reference, now I'm feeling nostalgic.
ReplyDelete@Sharon & The Norwegian BookGirl - Glad you enjoy the post, thanks for commenting!
@Danielle D - That's one of the reasons I love it when cover artist or authors are able to post progression pictures on their blog. I'm sure there were all sorts of little tweaks that went into making THIRTEEN, we just want to see a few more...
I'm not usually sold by covers, what I like are the blurb reveals. However, both cover and blurb made me immediately add Nightshifted to my wishlist. Too bad it isn't out till next May. I would buy it right now if I could.
ReplyDelete@JenM - The anticipation is the worst. Trying to distract myself from a book that is "almost" out is when I buy the most book.
