Today we have a new variety of Cover Art Coverage to share, as we compare and contrast the cover art of familiar books around the globe. Rather than thumbs up and down, Abigail and I have picked our favorites and I hope you do, too!

Lothaire by Kresley Cole
U. S.![]() | U. K.![]() |

| Abigail’s Preference | Julia’s Preference |
| I really don’t love either of these. Nothing sexy about the wispy bangs on the US cover, and he looks like he’s asleep in the UK cover. I guess the US is marginally better. | I love the U. K. cover, if only because it’s Jeff Goldblum as a vampire, woot! |

The Space Between by Brenna Yovanoff
U. S.![]() | U. K. & Australia![]() |
|
| Abigail’s Preference | Julia’s Preference |
| Got to be US. Niko is one of my favorite artists and he captured the look of Pandemonium perfectly. | The U.K./Aus cover channels a little bit of old school V. C. Andrews, but that’s no match for the intricate fantasyland that Niko created. |

Moonshine by Rob Thurman
U. S.![]() | U. K.![]() |
|
| Abigail’s Preference | Julia’s Preference |
| Chris McGrath for the win. Love his signature gritty style. | Oooh, I love the up close intensity of the U. K. cover. What a beautiful, Ryan Phillippe glance this cover model has. Yum! |

Switched by Amanda Hocking
U. S.![]() | U. K. |
|
| Abigail’s Preference | Julia’s Preference |
| Tough call. Both are very pretty, but I think the US cover better communicates the paranormal YA tone. | I agree with Abigail about the paranormal aspects, but I like the U. K.’s butterflies. The pop of accent orange is more enticing than all that red, though I know the U. S. cover matches a series theme. |

Destined by Aprilynne Pike
U. S.![]() | U. K.![]() |
|
| Abigail’s Preference | Julia’s Preference |
| The UK cover is so glaringly pink. I vastly prefer the soft, elegant feel of the US cover. | The U. K. cover does say “faerie tale”, but a little too aggressively for my taste. I’m no horticulturist, but why has bamboo, a rose, and a water lily mated with a bottle of Pepto-Bismol? |

Storm by Brigid Kemmerer
U. S.![]() | Australia![]() |
|
| Abigail’s Preference | Julia’s Preference |
| US again. I’m vibing on the guys together. It’s not a common look for YA. | I’ve really enjoyed how each book in the U. S. series feature another of the group, pulling from the same cover models. Also, not digging the open shirt and jewelry on the U. K. cover. |

The Wood Queen by Karen Mahoney
U. S.![]() | Australia![]() |
|
| Abigail’s Preference | Julia’s Preference |
| The AU cover is just lovely. The back of her head pose on the US cover is just odd to me. | Love her glance, and the dress is gorgeous. |

Before I Wake by Rachel Vincent
U. S.![]() | U. K.![]() |
|
| Abigail’s Preference | Julia’s Preference |
| I don’t love the US cover, but the UK cover looks like she’s in old age makeup. Very Weird. | Wow, the U. K. version really doesn’t work for me. The cover model is so washed out she looks like the albino from The Princess Bride (with fake eyelashes). Much too much white, and the red/orange fire just emphasizes how washed out most of the cover is. |

The Scorpio Races by Maggie Stiefvater
U. S. | Russian |
|
| Abigail’s Preference | Julia’s Preference |
| I prefer the somewhat stark, but strong US cover. The Russian cover makes it look like magic is involved. | Holy crap! I mean, I love the U. S. cover, but the Russian cover makes my inner little girl (who used to name her bike and pretend it was a horse) so, so happy. Rainbows and ponies for the win! |

Thirteen by Kelley Armstrong
U. S.![]() | U. K.![]() |
|
| Abigail’s Preference | Julia’s Preference |
| Even though it has a biological thriller feel to it, I’m drawn more to the UK cover. | I’m not a big fan of either of these covers, but the U. S. cover at least gives some of the series vibe. |

Blood Magic by Tessa Gratton
U. S.![]() | M. X. |
|
| Abigail’s Preference | Julia’s Preference |
| I’m so torn. I really like them both. Nekro is the artist for both and I really love his style. I’m going to have to go with the Spanish version. I like the title detail better, and her pose with the blowing hair is stunning. | Wow, love the movement and color of the Mexican cover. The bird is a little much, but her hair looks fabulous in black and white. |

What a great new feature, I enjoyed it a lot! I usually tend to prefer UK covers, but here there were some quite 'ugh' ones. LOVED the UK cover of Switched and Storm!
ReplyDeleteps. and I like the UK cover of Rachel Vincent's book ;-)
I have always liked the US cover of The Space Between. I like the UK versions of Switched, The Wood Queen, and Blood Magic. Love the new global edition cover art feature!
ReplyDeleteHow neat! I really liked this post! =D
ReplyDeleteI love the UK cover of Moonshine and Switched and Aus cover of The Wood Queen..I much prefer the UK Soul Screamers overall as well..the US ones are the same old girl in fancy dress.
ReplyDeleteGlad you guys like the feature, I was a fan of many of the new covers as well. I think the Russian SCORPIO RACES is my favorite, though, my inner child absolutely loves it :-)
ReplyDeleteThe second cover of Blood Magic is of the second book: The Blood Keeper.
ReplyDeleteThis is of the Blood Magic: http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-iF_wvFhe7zw/TsY8H7d3pII/AAAAAAAABjo/CU8v1pNYfpc/s1600/Blood+Magic+Tessa+Gratton.jpg
:)
I thought that at first too, but the covers on goodreads were a little confusing. Either way it's gorgeous.
DeleteFor the most part I always prefer a U.S cover to the ones we get here in the UK. I have never understood why there is a need to change it for other countries, especially when the original is usually better.
ReplyDeleteI have to agree with Abigail about the UK cover of Rachel Vincent's book, it's a shame, good job I buy mine from the U.S
Have you seen the animated UK ebook covers? Rachel Vincent has them up on her site and they are beautiful.
