Review

For Elleodora Fredricks, it probably should not have been that much of a surprise to find out that her abusive, murderous father is King of the Shadow Elves, but she never could have expected the explosion of other preternatural creatures that were revealed with him.  There are light elves, gargoyles, phoenix, oracles, and more, and now the men in her life are giving a crash course on the risks of crossing these bloodlines.  These risks won’t cramp Elle’s love life, but her newly developing powers make it apparent that she has a bit more than shadow elf running through her veins.
With the looming threat of uncontrolled powers, murder, and an unknown Fate, Elle has a lot on her plate.  Unfortunately, once her heritage starts to be unveiled, Elle seems to backslide in terms of luck and good sense.  Starting out as a leather-clad cat-burglar robbing her father to help his victims, by books end, despite learning to stick up for herself, she is positioned as victim. Even her love life takes a huge step backwards, from a few short days of domestic bliss with the devoted Jax to a love triangle predestined by Fate (which, as much as I loved both Jax and Mac, I was not happy about the built-in complicated love life.  Talk about getting screwed by destiny). 
Cliff hangers are definitely common in this genre, but STONE COLD SEDUCTION’s ending left me hanging on too many fronts.  There was no incremental triumph to celebrate at the close of STONE COLD SEDUCTION. Elle's strength in the face of childhood trauma is admirable, and she is able to fight back against her tormentors for the first time, but ultimately we are left with the prospect of an uncertain love life, an uncertain home life, and a lot more contact with Elle’s sadistic father in book two (coming in November 2011). I'm interesting in finding out more but I want to stock pile a few books in this series before I’ll start reading again, just to make sure Elle gets some sort of happy ending.
