What is the Biggest UF that you haven’t read?

image What is the biggest Urban Fantasy book/series that you haven't read yet? Or is there one one you waited a long time before reading?  I spent years avoiding Laurell K. Hamilton's Anita Blake series because of the bad press I had heard. You can read about what caused me to finally pick up Guilty Pleasures and my love/loath relationship with Anita Blake here.

image The Twilight Saga was another series I didn't immediately pick up. In fact, I didn't start book one until two weeks before Breaking Dawn was released.  I, stupidly, had a complete blind spot when it came to YA books (which Twilight is largely responsible for removing). For some reason, I thought that I wouldn't be able to relate to a love story written about high school kids. Thankfully I no longer harbor such delusions. Ultimately, I’m glad I didn't start Twilight sooner because I would never been able to wait the year or so between books that the rest of the world had to. As it was, the two weeks I did have to wait were fairly torturous.

So are there any biggies I haven't read yet? Probably the biggest biggie of them all: Anne Rice.  I know some of you are gasping given that Anne is one of the mothers of the genre.  I haven't read any of her books yet and I don't currently own any. I’ve seen both film adaptations featuring LeStat (in fact I just re-watched Interview with a Vampire this weekend).  And I’m excited about the prospect of a third film:

As of August 2009, recent talks have been underway in the continuation of 'The Vampire Chronicles' film series, with 'The Vampire Lestat' being the next film to be focused on in the series. Robert Downey Jr. is said to be up for the role of Lestat. –Wikipedia

But I cannot seem to muster up any enthusiasm for the actual books.  Am I missing out on something great here?

  2. Well I can encourage you to cautiously try LKH, just tread softly and prepare for a drastic change after the first 4 or 5 :)

  3. Twilight. Actually, I have no desire to read the rest of the series, read the first and that was it for me.

However, I do have a stack of Kim Harrison books. Not sure the name of the series, but includes Fistful of Charms, Dead Witch Walking, etc. I have 4 sitting on my bookcase but I just haven't started them.

Anne Rice is AWESOME! However, I will say though, people who haven't read her books before diving into huge influx of the newer UF, don't like her books after reading them. Anne Rice is a little different and I love her style!

  4. Thanks for the Anne Rice tip. I might have to check her out.

The Kim Harrison books are from The Hollows/Rachel Morgan series. Her world building is phenomenal, and the main character of Rachel is one of my favorites. The big problem that a lot of people had is with the treatment of a specific character (I don't want spoil it for you)which sort of segwayed into an ever increasing focus on a lesbian relationship. I don't know what happened after that as I never made it past book 4.

  5. Hi Abigail. First time poster here. Just found your blog and this post caught my attention.

There's a couple of series that have a ton of hype surrounding them that I just haven't had a chance to get to.

The Georgina Kincaid series and the Vampire Academy series by Richelle Mead.

    Also the Kate Daniels series.

    *bows head in shame*

In my defense I just got Magic Bites and I'll be starting it this weekend.

  6. Don't feel bad. I haven't started the Vampire Academy books yet either, but I do have the first one on my shelf now and I'll be reading it soon.
I'm psyched for you to start the Kate Daniels books. She is right behind Mercy Thompson for me.
