Throwdown Thursday
Throwdown Thursday is a weekly thing [hosted by The Neverending Shelf] where we tackle books with similar characters, covers, themes, etc. to determine which one rocks more. And it is up to YOU to determine the winner!
Mel Kate
Is this a new trend in the urban fantasy genre? Looking over the shoulder with a sword raised behind the back? Judging solely on their cover art, who is more formidable looking (Beast Lord aside)? Mel or Kate?
Leave a comment below with your answer and check back next Thursday for the winner and a new Throwdown.
Amazon Ink by Lori Devoti
Meet Mel: Business owner. Dedicated mom. Natural-born Amazon. It’s been ten years since Melanippe Saka left the Amazon tribe in order to create a normal life for her daughter, Harmony. True, running a tattoo parlor in Madison, Wisconsin while living with your Amazon warrior mother and priestess grandmother is not everyone’s idea of normal, but Mel thinks she’s succeeded at blending in as human. Turns out she’s wrong. Someone knows all about her, someone who’s targeting young Amazon girls, and no way is Mel is going to let Harmony become tangled in this deadly web. With her mother love in overdrive, Ms. Melanippe Saka is quite a force . . . even when she’s facing a barrage of distractions—including a persistent detective whose interest in Mel goes beyond professional, a sexy tattoo artist with secrets of his own, and a seriously angry Amazon queen who views her as a prime suspect. To find answers, Mel will have to do the one thing she swore she’d never do: embrace her powers and admit that you can take the girl out of the tribe . . . but you can’t take the tribe out of the girl.
Magic Strikes by Ilona Andrews
Drafted into working for the Order of Merciful Aid, mercenary Kate Daniels has more paranormal problems than she knows what to do with these days. And in Atlanta, where magic comes and goes like the tide, that’s saying a lot. But when Kate’s werewolf friend Derek is discovered nearly dead, she must confront her greatest challenge yet. As her investigation leads her to the Midnight Games – an invitation only, no holds barred, ultimate preternatural fighting tournament – she and Curran, the Lord of the Beasts, uncover a dark plot that may forever alter the face of Atlanta’s shapeshifting community…
Hmmm....They both look pretty fierce. Kate's banged up BUT she's still standing. I'm all for a girl who can take a lickin' and still gets back up and comes back for more.
ReplyDeleteMy money's on Kate.
I haven't read either of these books but I like Magic Strikes. The lion makes it "all that" for me.
ReplyDeleteI have to go with Kate. She's got it going on:)
ReplyDeleteI've got to go with Kate. Mel looks like she has no idea what to do with that sword. It looks like it's too heavy for her and she's about to drop it! Kate looks like she's at least ready to take a swing.
