Happy Mother’s Day! While it’s true that most urban fantasy heroines tend to fly solo, there are a handful that manage to balance supernatural smack downs and motherhood.
Top 5 Urban Fantasy moms
- Charlie Madigan (mother of Emma) from the Charlie Madigan series by Kelly Gay
- Cass Dollar (mother of Ruthie) from the Aftertime series by Sophie Littlefield
- Alexandra Tarabotti (mother of Prudence) from the Parasol Protectorate series by Gail Carriger
- Elena Michaels (mother of twins Logan and Katherine) from the Women of the Otherworld series by Kelley Armstrong
- Mel Saka (mother of Harmony) from the Amazon series by Lori Devoti
And a few that may not have given birth to the kids in their lives, but have taken on an active role in raising them:
- Kate Daniels (guardian of Julie) from the Kate Daniels series by Illona Andrews
- Mercy Thompson (stepmother of Jesse) from the Mercy Thompson series by Patricia Briggs
- Arcadia Bell (dating the father of Jupe) from the Arcadia Bell series by Jenn Bennett
Who are some of your favorite urban fantasy moms?

Awww, great post! I never thought of Mercy as taking on Jesse's mom-role and now that she's actually her step mom, it's a done deal. And she's a much better mom than Jesse's real mom anyways ;)

I've always liked Mercy's relationship with Jesse. I'll be really interested in seeing it progress in the next book.
DeleteCharlie is my favorite mom she kicks a** and takes care of her kid all in a days work
ReplyDeleteMe too. She's the reason I wanted to do this post in the first place :)
DeleteAwesome post, the only other mother I can think of in UF is Justina Crawford, Cat Crawford-Russell's mom from Jeaniene Frost's Night Huntress series. She's a horrible mother, but I think she's starting to improve and see the error of her ways. Maybe.
ReplyDeleteI guess I was thinking more of the protagonists who were moms, but your right about Cat's mom being awful...that could be a whole new list :)
ReplyDeleteWhile I haven't read a ton of books with heroines that are mom's but I really like Dakota Frost from the Skindancer series by Anthony Francis...she's a kick ass tattoo artist who's an adoptive mom to a weretiger who managers to brings out her softer side.
ReplyDeleteHappy Mother's Day to all the moms!
