To pay the rent, Julie worked in different bookstores over the years, but discovered the managers frowned upon her reading the books she was supposed to be shelving. So she turned to her other passion: training animals. She worked as a professional dog trainer for several years, dodging Chihuahua bites and overly enthusiastic Labradors, until her first book sold and she stopped training to write full-time. Her third novel, The Iron Queen, became a New York Times bestseller and her debut novel, The Iron King recently won the RITA award for best young-adult fiction novel of 2010. Julie now lives in La Grange, Kentucky, with her husband, two obnoxious cats, one Australian shepherd who is too smart for his own good and the latest addition, a hyperactive papillon. |

In the dark days since the insidious Red Lung virus decimated the human population, vampires have risen to rule the crumbling cities and suburbs. Uncontested Princes hold sway over diminished ranks of humans: their "pets." In exchange for their labor, loyalty and of course, their blood, these pets are registered, given food and shelter, permitted to survive.
Unregistered humans cling to the fringe, scavenging for survival. Allison Sekemoto and her fellow Unregistereds are hunted, not only by vampires, but by rabids, the unholy result of Red Lung-infected vampires feeding on unwary humans. One night, Allie is attacked by a pack of rabids, saved by an unlikely hero...and turned vampire.
Uncomfortable in her undead skin, Allie falls in with a ragtag crew of humans seeking a cure, or cures: for Rabidism and for Vampirism. She's passing for human...for now. But the hunger is growing and will not be denied. Not for friendship—not even for love.

I believe I would choose to be an 'Unregistered.' I just don't think I'd do very well as a pet.
ReplyDeleteI'd also be an unregistered.
ReplyDeleteI really want to read this! Is the giveaway international? Almost all the other Immortal Rules blog hop giveaways are only open to US/Can.
ReplyDeleteUnregistered. I don't like being told what to do.
ReplyDeletePet. Mostly because I probably wouldn't survive unregistered
ReplyDeleteUnregistered. Can't see myself as someone's pet.
ReplyDeleteOoh tough. Just saw Tynga's answer and think that's true for me. As an unregistered I wouldn't likely survive.
ReplyDeleteBut to be a pet?? That might be harder. I think I would be an unregistered and try to find a group to live with.
Is there a 3rd choice? Neither of those sound very appealing. I guess unregistered if I have to choose...
ReplyDeleteThanks for the giveaway!
Unregistered. I dont like being ordered around.
ReplyDeleteProbably pet. Would hope to be strong enough to be unregistered. But face it, I don't deal with uncertainty well.
ReplyDeleteUnregistered. Thanks
ReplyDeleteI think both would be difficult in different ways, but I think I would attempt to be an unregistered. Thanks for this opportunity!
ReplyDeleteUnregistered.
ReplyDeleteI would choose to be unregistered. I don't like people telling me what to do so no being a pet for sure.
ReplyDeleteCouldn't imagine life as a pet, so I would be an unregistered.
ReplyDeleteI'd choose to be a Pet because I wouldn't mind being taken care of all the time LOL! Thanks for the amazing opportunity!
ReplyDeleteI entered as Lucy D.
DeleteThanks for a great giveaway! I think I'd be an unregistered too.
ReplyDeleteI'm not a very brave person. At all, so I'd have to be a pet, even if the "safety" is false, it would still be better than having to completely rely on myself for food. Besides, even if I was brave, I could risk my children starving, so it would be registered all the way for me.
ReplyDeleteI'd probably choose unregistered despite the danger. I can't see myself letting someone gnaw on me.
ReplyDeleteI would wish to be unregistered, but would probably be a pet.
ReplyDeleteI am one of those crazy, big mouth, don't-do-well-with-authority types, so I would have to be unregistered, as someone would kill me after a few hours of being a "pet", strictly b/c I would not listen :)
ReplyDeleteUnregistered.
ReplyDeleteI would have to choose unregistered. I enjoy my freedom too much to give any of it over to something as dirty/horrid as a vampire! Or anyone/thing who would actually want to take my freedom.
ReplyDeleteunregistered
ReplyDeleteI think unregistered. Being a pet wouldn't set well with me.
ReplyDeleteI don't know, I would probably be unregistered. Then again it's not fun to be hunted all the time. Thanks for the giveaway, can't wait!
ReplyDeleteI would choose to be a pet. Im not real good at being Hungry LOL
ReplyDeleteI'd probably be a pet who would secretly dream of being unregistered.
ReplyDeleteI don't think I could survive as a pet. I'd have to go unregistered, all the way.
ReplyDeleteA pet, I think. Of course, my opinion might change after reading!
ReplyDeleteI think I'd want to be an unregistered.
ReplyDeleteI would choose to unregistered.
ReplyDeleteI would want to be an unregistered.
ReplyDeleteHmm...I'm thinking an Unregistered.
ReplyDeleteUnregistered
ReplyDeleteProbably... unregistered.
ReplyDeleteTough question, but I think I'd live as an unregistered
ReplyDeletei think i'd probably go with unregistered.
ReplyDeleteUnregistered because I don't take direction well.
ReplyDeleteI would be Unregistered! Thanks for the awesome giveaway! :))
ReplyDeleteI don't know...I guess a pet.
ReplyDeleteI would choose to be a pet. I want to live without trouble and starving. Yes, I am a weakling...
ReplyDeleteI would wish to be an unregistered, but when push came to shove I'm not sure that I might not accept the life of a pet.
ReplyDeleteI love the little dating service description for Kamin.
Thanks for the giveaway opportunity.
I would choose Unregistered. I'm not good at following directions ;)
ReplyDeleteThanks for the giveaway
I would be an Unregistered...I'm hard headed and strong enough to be a success!
ReplyDeleteWendy/books4me
I would choose to be a pet. I feel I could not survive otherwise.
ReplyDelete- Beckie
Probably unregistered, but I may change my mind after reading it!
ReplyDeleteProbably unregistered.
ReplyDeleteI want to say unregistered, but I have absolutely zip survival skills so, pet.
ReplyDelete-Yan
Unregistered. Tore923@aol.com
ReplyDeleteunregistered
ReplyDeleteUnregistered!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Freedom!!!!!!!!!!
ReplyDeleteI like to say I was brave and have the mind frame to live as an Unregistered but most likely ill be a Pet.
ReplyDeleteSurvival-wise I'll be a pet.
ReplyDeleteI haven't read it yet. Sounds great but I'll go with unregistered.
ReplyDeleteI'm thinking Unregistered. Soooo looking forward to reading this!
ReplyDeleteAs much as I would like to think I'd be an unregistered. I am a coward and would be a pet!
ReplyDeleteI would want to be unregistered. I'm sure its harder to live but I am not a pet.
ReplyDeleteI would chose to be an unregistered.
ReplyDelete*Sigh* This is hard to say, but I would be a pet. In books and daydreams the thought of being living such a tough but free life away from the rule of vampires is a great thought. But it is only a thought, I know myself (a little too well, sadly) and I dont have the courage or the personality to rough it. (Don't judge!!) I can easily see myself being hunted and picked off by vampires. I would rather live a cowardly life than not live at all!
ReplyDeletei think unregistered
ReplyDeleteUnregistered.. I don't like the sound of 'pet'.
ReplyDeleteKelsey d
unregistered. I don't think I be a good pet.
ReplyDeleteUnregistered - I'd rather not be a pet.
ReplyDeleteId prefer to be an Unregistered....Being a pet wouldn't fit into my categorized personality....I'd probably be dead in a heart beat if I were a pet LOL I can't control my bold personality
ReplyDeleteI wish I could say that I would want to be an unregistered, but I'm not really someone whole likes conflict, so I would probably just end up as a pet anyways o.o
ReplyDeletei want to say im gunna be tough and choose unregistered, but to be honest, i really don't know how tough i'll be living in that world.
ReplyDeleteso probably just pet.
who knows, maybe i'll escape and be a rebel. mwahaha
Unregistered for sure! I couldn't stand to be anyones pet.
ReplyDeleteUnregistered, totally! I am my only boss :)
ReplyDeleteUnregistered
ReplyDeleteUnregister Me!
ReplyDeleteI think I'd be Unregistered...even though I'd never survive in the world Julie created no matter what...LOL. Great giveaway!
ReplyDeleteUnregister...maybe :-)
ReplyDeleteTough question: I want to say unregistered and hope I survived.
ReplyDeletePet.
ReplyDeleteUnregistered...being called a pet is so degrading.
ReplyDeleteI would say Unregistered! Great giveaway thank you very much!
ReplyDeleteIt would depend. I'd probably try to get by unregistered but no doubt I'd end up a pet anyway. Thanks!
ReplyDeleteUnregistered.
