Reasons to Dig Wolves
by
Katie Reus
Thank you so much to Abigail, Julia, and Kristina for letting me blog with them today!
Since I have a new shifter series (Moon Shifter) releasing from Signet (uh, today actually!) I thought I’d share the top ten reasons that I dig wolves. My shifters are lupine shifters (wolf shifters) so it only makes sense that I have a love for them. They’re such gorgeous animals and even though I’m a big fan of vampire stories, I just can’t get enough of the furry animals!
My top ten in no particular order:
- Wolves are incredibly protective of their own. As a new mom, I love how they’re fiercely protective of their young.
- They’re simply stunning animals. I love watching such majestic animals move because it’s like seeing nature at its finest.
- They’re survivors. In the past forty years the American wolf population has substantially grown to five times their original numbers after being close to extinction in some areas. This is thanks to being on the endangered species list (which they aren’t on anymore in some areas).
- Wolves play such a big part in our folklore.
- They work great as a team.
- In Native American cultures, wolves are often seen as teachers and represent freedom and loyalty.
- If they need to, they can run up to 40 miles per hour. Holy crap that’s impressive!
- Under the right circumstances, a wolf can hear up to 6 miles away. Again, very impressive.
- Wolves have common ancestors with dogs (and I’m a big dog person).
- They are incredibly intelligent and can pick up on body language and scent from humans.
Please note: I understand that in some parts of the world the hunting habitats of wolves need to be managed for the protection of other animal populations. This is just a fun post about why I love wolves.
What do you enjoy about paranormal romance? Or what is your favorite type of animal? Mine is the dog. I absolutely love them and understand why they’re considered man’s best friend.

Available now from Signet
Description:
Fear has a scent. So does desire…
Ana Cordona has been a strong leader for the lupine shifters who survived after all the males and most of the females in her pack were mysteriously poisoned. As tough as she is, with no Alpha male, the pack is vulnerable to the devious shifter Taggart, who wants to claim both their ranch and Ana as his own. When Connor Armstrong comes back into her life, promising protection, it’s almost enough to make Ana forget how he walked out on her before—and reluctantly accept his offer to mate.
The minute Connor sees Ana again, it reawakens a raw hunger. He must have her for his bondmate—his wolf cries out for it. But his human side knows he must proceed with caution because of their complicated past. If he is to truly have her body and soul, he must go beyond his burning desire and win back her heart. Whatever it takes, he is determined not to leave her side again.
But Taggart and his rival pack are not their only enemies. A human element in town is targeting shifters. Their plan not only threatens Ana and Connor’s future, but the lives of the entire pack…

I’ve been reading romance from a young age—ever since I discovered my mom’s hidden stash. Luckily the addiction stayed with me into adulthood. I write paranormal romance and sexy romantic suspense for

I love wolves! When I was a teenager I had posters of them plastered to my walls. Now I just read a lot of werewolf novels. The best of both worlds, fierce wolves and hot men!
ReplyDeleteThis books sounds really awesome, can't wait to read it!
I totally did too! It's probably why I ended up getting a Siberian husky when I was older (she looked so much like the wolf picture in the blog post!). Thanks for stopping by today :)
DeleteI love how paranormal romances are so character driven.
ReplyDeleteMe too! There are some pnr authors, that when I'm finished reading their stories, I don't even care what the main plot was because their characters just stick with me :)
DeleteI love paranormal romance because it's total escapism. I'm always amazed at how inventive my favorite authors are. The book sounds great! I love shifters.
ReplyDeleteI am all about the escapism too! Thanks for stopping by :)
DeleteI love who you can have vampire, werewolves, witches, fae all in one story. I love all the personalities and powers. I love big cats.
ReplyDeleteI love the blending of all supernatural creatures in books! And felines are pretty awesome too. Pretty much all shifters rock, imo :) (btw, there's a jaguar cub in Alpha Instinct!)
DeleteI like wolves.
ReplyDeleteMe too :) Thanks for stopping by.
DeleteI love ferrets, but you don't get a lot of ferret shifters. :-D
ReplyDeleteI love the mix of reality and fantasy that you get with paranormal romance.
Ha!! My husband had a pet ferret when he was a kid and keeps telling me to write a ferret story, lol! Thanks for stopping by :)
DeleteSounds like a cool book! I've always loved wolves.
ReplyDeleteThanks! And thanks for stopping by today :)
DeleteThis book sounds great. I like wolves, but I've always had a thing for pigs. They're not as sexy as wolves that's for sure, but they're super smart. Apparently, I like nerdy animals :)
ReplyDeleteAww, pigs are adorable. I love the little teacup pigs! They're so cute, you just want to carry them around everywhere. As I'm a huge geek, there is nothing wrong with nerdy animals ;)
DeleteI am a wolf person too. I see a lot of people are :D I have a large picture that hangs in my sitting room of wolves.
ReplyDeleteI think the biggest thing I like about paranormal romance is that once you step into that world it is all consuming and you feel like it's all possible.
They're so majestic it's hard not to love them! Thanks so much for stopping by :)
DeleteThanks for the fantastic giveaway! I love PNR b/c anything is possible and I love reading about new worlds and unique characters.
ReplyDeleteHappy Tuesday!
Thanks for stopping by, Erin! And right back at ya! This is shaping up to be a very nice Tuesday *g*
DeleteFoxes! Also ravens. Actually, I like all animals, but those are a couple of my faves.
ReplyDeleteVery nice choice, on both counts! Foxes are so pretty! I always think of The Fox and the Hound movie and how hard they struggled to stay friends because of their differences. Thanks so much for stopping by :)
DeleteI love arctic foxes and wolves :D
ReplyDeleteOooh, more great choices! Obviously I love wolves but arctic foxes = awesomeness :)
DeleteSince I have 3, I'd say cats.
ReplyDeleteI dig the felines too. Maybe one day I'll do a post about their awesomeness :) Thanks for stopping by!
DeleteI adore wolves and use them in many of my stories. :)
ReplyDeleteThey're hard not to love :)
DeleteLuv shifters! Can't wait to read this.
ReplyDeleteWolves and other types of shifters are a great read in UF books
ReplyDeleteAgreed! I'm all about characters embracing their inner animal :)
DeleteI love all animals but I am really a cat person. I'm a Leo and a Tiger so it's kind of in the cards :).
ReplyDeleteI dig the felines too! You're the second person to mention them (I think?)...I think I'm def going to do a post on felines (and there is an adorable jaguar cub in Alpha Instinct so I did not forget the felines!)
DeleteI love all animal....but I have a preference for cat (all kind of cat...big an small) and rat.
ReplyDeleteI never thought about rats before recently, but I love how Nalini Singh has them in her Psy-Changeling books. Nice choices!
DeleteI like paranormal romance because all of the heroes are so sexy and awesome. I wish I'd meet some men like that in real life! My favorite paranormal creatures are werewolves and big cat shifters (leopards, lions, jaguars, etc.).
ReplyDeleteI know, right! Totally love the alpha males in paranormal romance :)
DeleteMy favorite type of animal is a werewolf.
ReplyDeleteVery nice choice! :)
DeleteI love dogs, so wolves are a big hit with me! Although I have to admit that my lazy beagle (see avatar) is slightly, just slightly, less agressive than a wolf. She doesn't exactly inspire fear, lol.
ReplyDeleteLol! Maybe under the right circumstances she could be scary...but probably not *g* What a little cutie!
DeleteI love paranormal romance because I've always been a fan of all things supernatural and paranormal, and who doesn't like a bit of romance? ;)
ReplyDeleteMy favorite animal is a hummingbird.
Angie @ Pinkindle Reads & Reviews
That's a really unique choice! As far as birds go, they're pretty bada**! I think they're the only birds who can fly backwards (right?)
DeleteI love me the lupines, and this sounds like such a fast paced and intriguing view of shifters. Thank you for creating it. I cannot wait.
ReplyDeleteThanks! I had a lot of fun creating this world so I really hope people enjoy it :)
DeleteI love paranormal romance because there are so many possible storylines that an author can take.
ReplyDeleteI love the lupine stories, but I also like werecats.
Exactly, there are really no limits in paranormal romance :) Thanks for stopping by!
DeleteI love the protective instincts that wolves have towards their young, and the fact that the Grey Wolf mates for life. Both are great characteristics to meld with werewolf romance stories.
ReplyDeletecaity_mack at yahoo dot com
Absolutely love the gray wolf! :)
DeleteHappy release day to you! Vampires are my favorite paranormal creautures and I love the possibilities of the world building. It enables the heroes and heroines to do really special things.
ReplyDeleteThanks, Na! I love those vampires too :)
DeleteMy favorite animals are horses! Not too many of them mentioned in UF, but maybe they should be... Not a shifters though, that would be too weird. I will be wondering what kinda man my horse would be if he shifted... Lets see he's tall and blonde, ooh maybe he should shift! Yikes that sounds creepy... Congrats on your book release sounds like a great series!
ReplyDeleteThere are horses in Alpha Instinct! (though not of the shifter variety). Ana, the heroine, has a horse named Adalita :)
DeleteThis makes Alpha Instinct move straight to the top of my TBR pile! Thanks (in advance) for an UF with horses!!
DeleteI love the "what if" factor in paranormal romance. The idea of something more that human is interesting and fun! In reading paranormal you can become something that flies and has strength of 10 ox! Or be vulnerable to the sun or moon. It is just fascinating to me!! My favorite animal in paranormal is werewolf. My favorite animal is a dog! Figures! :)
ReplyDeleteI love the what if factor for so many reasons too! Yay! Another dog person :)
DeleteI love that anything is possible in paranormal romance. The writer makes all the rules.
ReplyDeleteExactly, there is no 'impossible'! :)
DeleteI enjoy dogs but must admit that in general I have and am still a cat person.
ReplyDeleteNothing wrong with that! I totally dig cats too :)
DeleteLove wolves. Yes, they're beautiful. But I love the way they're often so hot bloodied as shifters in novels. No, I don't mean in a sexual sense. I mean in the sense that you'd never be cold when snuggled up to one on a winter's night. Their strength is so appealing, too; I wonder if that adds to the element of safety one would feel once accepted into the wolf's 'fold'. And I'm with some of the other commenter's, who've mentioned the escapism of PNR. Can't argue with that at all, no siree.
ReplyDeleteThanks for the great giveaway.
Agreed! The element of strength and safety associated with them might be part of the reason they're such appealing characters. :)
DeleteI love how varied it is. I'm not stuck with one type of character. I can have vampires, fairies, ghosts, demons, werecreatures and anything else that the author can come up with.
ReplyDeleteThat being said, my favorite animal is a goat, but they don't have weregoats. That would just be silly.
Lol!! If someone ever writes a weregoat story, not gonna lie, I'd be intrigued enough to see what it was all about ;) Thanks for stopping by!
DeleteI love paranormal romance because it's nothing like everyday life. It keeps me using my imagination something I think as we grow older some people forget to use. I mean who doesn't want to read or think about vampires, shifters, fae, etc.
ReplyDeleteAs for favorite animal I love wolves. I live right outside of Yellowstone National Park so I have to be a closet I <3 Wolves person because of all the crap I would get by saying I like wolves. They are just beautiful animals and wild and something people can't tame no matter how much they try.
After all the research I did on wolves, I totally get what you're saying about 'being in the closet', especially considering where you live. (It's why I put that note at the end of my post *g*). And I agree, there's a wildness about them that is absolutely intoxicating. :)
DeleteI've always loved wolves. Love paranormal as anything can happen, imagination at work. Thanks for giveway.
ReplyDeleteYay, another person who digs wolves! Thanks so much for stopping by!
Deletei love paranormal romance cuz its awesome! lol.. fav animal, (other then my husky) is gonna be a cat.. love em all.. big cats, small cats.. lions, tigers, tabbys oh my!!
ReplyDeleteThat's probably the best answer, lol! Because it's awesome. Totally love it :) (I owned a husky too, for about eight years!)
DeleteI love reading paranormal romance because it lets me explore a world not quite like our own but filled with the creatures I wish were real since I was younger. I at the moment have a thing for werewolves but most of all ones that change into the beautiful winter white fur with blue crystal eyes, eerie but gorgeous. But being said my favorite animal is a buffalo and who would ever think of that were it comes to were.
ReplyDeleteBuffalo; I think that's one of the most unique answers I've had yet :) Thanks for stopping by today!
DeleteI love PNR because the stories are so unique, each author is able to make their characters and worlds as different as they want. Nothing is impossible.
ReplyDeleteAs far as fave animals, in real life it would probably be dogs. In shifters, I love the big jungle cats.
Yay for dogs, they're man's best friend for a reason :)
DeleteHi! I enjoy many things about PNR first the romance between supernatural creatures! All the fantasy and dream the PNR gives is unlimited! In PNR I really like werewolves and the wolves shifters but I also enjoy dragon shifters they are super great! :P Thanks for this giveaway!
ReplyDeleteI haven't read any dragon shifters yet, but I've got one in my tbr pile and I'm really looking forward to it :) Thanks for stopping by!
DeleteCongratulations on the book! I like paranormals because I get to read about the author's creativity and imagination in the context of a good story.
ReplyDeletebn100candg(at)hotmail(dot)com
DeleteThanks! Imagination has no limits :)
DeleteI love reading paranormal, it makes me feel and believe that anything is within your grasp, everything could and can happen.
ReplyDeleteSo true and one of the reasons I love pnr so much too :) Thanks for stopping by!
DeleteHmm, hard to say what my favorite kind of animal is. I'm a big animal lover in general, but I'd probably have to say dogs. They're lovable and loyal and always there for you, and I also love their wolf cousins! :D
ReplyDeletemelocin94 at aol dot com
They are definitely loyal! When my husky was alive, one of the many things I adored about her was that when I came home, no matter what type of day I'd had, she was so cheerful and happy to see me. Hard to be in a bad mood with that kind of love :)
DeleteI absolutely love wolves and have been researching them a lot lately. I've also been watching the wolf-cams online and listening to them howl. Next stop is to go to a wolf preserve and see them live!
ReplyDeleteMy other love is big cats...couldn't be more different. Go figure... :)
Wolf preserve? You've officially made me jealous! I hope you have a fantastic time :)
DeleteMy favorite thing about paranormal romance is the Alpha Males! They always have a softer side that's very appealing :) And my favorite animal is probably a cat :) While I'm away at college my is taking care of mine, but I have her send me pictures all the time :D
ReplyDeleteCan't wait to read this book!
Exactly! I love it when they only show that side to their females. So sexy :)
DeleteI love all animals. Wolves hold a special place though. They are just beautiful! I have7 horses and 5 dogs. More than enough.
ReplyDeleteParanormals send me to a fantasy world that keeps my mind too busy to think of anything else. Away from work and relaxes me for bed.
That's just impressive! Two very gorgeous types of animals and yes, I would say definitely more than enough. I bet they keep you very busy :)
DeleteDragons! I love dragons. The closest I'll come though is my little water dragons. The oldest comes to his cage door when I walk in the room so he can be let out. To warm up he'll grab onto my arm or leg when he's out.
ReplyDeleteI'll admit I wasn't sure what water dragons were so I looked them up. Very cool!
DeleteI love reading paranormal romance because besides the HEA, I get to escape to another reality with some, usually, delish alpha males with paranormal abilities.
ReplyDeleteMy day to day is crazy so I love escaping with a great book and I love PNR for this exact reason.
Cant wait to read this book!
Thanks for the great giveaway!
HEAs are always a must! And sexy alpha males = yes please! I don't know how to write any other type of male :) Thanks for stopping by!
DeleteI'm a big cats kind of person. Wolves aren't bad either though ;)
ReplyDeleteI love the felines too! :)
DeleteThe thing I like most about paranormal romance is that it takes me to a different world for a period of time. I used to work in the medical field and I didn't want to read anything too close to real life.
ReplyDeleteI am such a dog person. We just adopted a 18 month old Great Dane from a rescue group this weekend! He is such a sweetheart! And a momma's boy! LOL!!!
Omg, love Great Danes! They are such cool dogs! So sweet that you adopted a dog too :)
DeleteI love cats. I love paranormal because anything is possible. There can be anytype of paranormal creatures and places. You use your imagination. Please enter me in contest. Tore923@aol.com
ReplyDeleteI have also always loved wolves, everything you named. I love the pack mentality, and how they listen to the alpha. Because of my love of wolves we got a Siberian husky, huskies operate a lot like wolves in they will listen to the alpha (my dog listens to me and not so much my husband, to his frustration) and are so protective. If we are out walking or at the dog park and other dogs get too close or if people are making me nervous my dog will come and put himself inbetween me and the threat.
ReplyDeleteEasy to romanticize a guy that acts like that! So I love it when they are thrown into the paranormal mix.
I love paranormal romances because they are not real, they are escapism from the real world and it's easier to not expect men to be like them because they are not even human in the books. I think my favorite would be the big cats, I love tigers and leopards, etc.
ReplyDeleteMy favorite type of animal is any type of cat. And I enjoy Paranormal Romance because there are no limits.
ReplyDeleteThis comment has been removed by the author.
ReplyDeleteI love Paranormal Romance because you can get right into them.Anything and everything can happen. I Love Wolves and Dogs! Thank you for the Giveaway!
ReplyDeleteI love how different each story is. All the different paranormal beings and the worlds. I love how the love is usually really intense, a love that would last forever. I basically love everything about Paranormal Romance.
ReplyDeleteParanormal romance is my favorite type of romance. My favorite animal is panthers.
ReplyDeleteRachel V

ReplyDeleteThanks for the post and giveaway!
My favorite animal is a cat, and in fact I have three! Paranormal is my favorite genre and I enjoy reading books based on shape shifters, whether they include cat shifters or not!
