Description

When a strange boy tumbles down a river embankment and lands at her feet, seventeen-year-old adrenaline junkie Deznee Cross snatches the opportunity to piss off her father by bringing the mysterious hottie with ice blue eyes home.

Except there’s something off with Kale. He wears her shoes in the shower, is overly fascinated with things like DVDs and vases, and acts like she’ll turn to dust if he touches her. It’s not until Dez’s father shows up, wielding a gun and knowing more about Kale than he should, that Dez realizes there’s more to this boy—and her father’s “law firm”—than she realized.

Kale has been a prisoner of Denazen Corporation—an organization devoted to collecting “special” kids known as Sixes and using them as weapons—his entire life. And, oh yeah, his touch? It kills. The two team up with a group of rogue Sixes hellbent on taking down Denazen before they’re caught and her father discovers the biggest secret of all. A secret Dez has spent her life keeping safe.

A secret Kale will kill to protect.

Review

TOUCH is the first book in a new paranormal YA series that blends the mythology of Heroes with the romance and action packed storytelling of a summer blockbuster.  The pace is slamming right from the first chapter.  I can’t remember the last time I read a book with this much action.  And the romance was just as strong.  Kale has a childlike innocence about him when we first meet him.  He had been raised inside the Denazen Corporation and had little to no knowledge of how the real world works.  And because of his ‘gift’ he’s never been able to touch another living thing…until Dez.  It was super sweet when she had to explain what a kiss was, and then super sexy when she had to show him.

Sweet and sexy aside, TOUCH is not a flawless book.  The chain of events—even in this supernatural world—were a little hard to believe at times.  The Denazen Corporation was evil with a capital ‘E’ with endless resources and uparalleled security, yet Dez was able to get in and out fairly easily, and without spoiling anything, it didn’t really make sense that Dez was given the special treatment she was. There were also a few too convenient moments and every lead they followed paid off.  I actually think TOUCH could have been even better with an extra hundred pages or so.  The action is relentless, in a good way, but if it had been stretched out just  little more, I think the depth and believability I was hoping for would have been there.

One heads up regarding the sexual content, it’s on the heavy side for a YA.  While the language is not exactly graphic, there is one sex scene that is highly sensual and doesn’t fade to black.  Bottom line, TOUCH was a really fun, superfast paced book with lots of potential to get even better as the series progresses.  The next book in the Denazen series is called TOXIC and will be published in May 1, 2012.  I’m already looking forward to it.
