Today’s guest, MaryJanice Davidson, writes her paranormal books with a hefty dose of humor and hijinks. This makes it no surprise that the star of her Undead series, Betsy Taylor, is not your typical Vampire Queen. Betsy needs all of her resources when she faces everything from vampires to ghosts, werewolves to the suburbs. Today Betsy tackles an urban legend near and dear to that suburban heart, the scourge of our living rooms: the television. And thanks to Berkley, two of you will win a copy of the latest book in the Undead spinoff series, Wyndahm Werewolves, WOLF AT THE DOOR. See details below

Betsy Taylor on “ABC-TV Wants You Dead”
by
MaryJanice Davidson
Is there anything scarier than knowing TV wants you dead? Well. Yeah. Knowing lots and lots of vampires want you dead; that’s scary. Friends dropping dead all around you: that’s scary. Knowing you’ll be ancient and have crappy taste in clothes: almost too scary to contemplate. TV wanting you to bite the big one, that’s a close second, though. Wait: third? A close fourth? Whatever.

My name’s Elizabeth Taylor (shut up...I’ve heard ‘em all, though the yuck-o comments have gotten worse since she and I are both dead now). My friends call me Betsy. So do my enemies, come to think of it. My husband calls me Elizabeth when he’s not calling me “my own” or “dearest”, but if I get started on him, I’ll forget all about TV wanting to kill me. One problem at a time, right?
Anyway, I was scouting for shoe sales on the web when I once again came across that whole “ABC is trying to kill you” thing. I guess a bunch of us have. The nature of the world wide web, and all that. What’s amazing to me is how many people are actually buying it.
Oh, you know: supposedly they blew the whistle on a brand-new eating disorder, fear-of-eating-crapaphobia. Except the whole thing turned out to be unproveable crapola, like any urban legend. Don’t turn on the light, the killer’s under your bed! And for sure don’t freak out when you wake up in a bathtub filled with ice and find out you’re light a kidney! I’ll say it again: unprovable crapola. Doesn’t stop people from talking about it, though or, worse: forwarding e-mails about it. Or links about it.
But TV...TV’s supposed to be your friend. Or, as Homer Simpson so wisely observed: “TV! Teacher, mother...secret lover.” So the knowledge that it can turn on you...that just sucks.
And the knowledge that it’s all over the internet...that sucks, too. Because there’s a sucker born every minute, and there’s an online sucker born about every nanosecond. My mom, who’s a college professor, believes everything she sees on the web and every e-mail from every Nigerian bazillionaire that ends up in her spam folder. All of ‘em. She believes it all. No question, ever.
This is a smart woman, you know. Multiple college degrees, savvy about various international peccadilloes, a woman who’s been in Newark after dark. If a snail mail letter from Bill Gates (promising her a free trip to Disneyworld) showed up in her mailbox, she’d scan it and then scornfully toss it into the garbage. But if it showed up in her e-mail, forwarded by someone she’s never met, she believes every word. How dumb is that? Makes me nuts. Maybe it’s a generational thing. Me, I could get an e-mail from my best friend, Jessica, saying we’d been friends for decades and I’d still want to go to the source.
So anyway. ABC’s trying to kill you. Except they’re not. And if you don’t believe me, I’ve got a friend of a friend who needs you to invest $5,000 so you can then get $1,000,000 as a reward for helping him.
I know, right?

I love romances between humans and cats. Please enter me in contest. I would love to read this book. Tore923@aol.com
ReplyDeleteThe only thing that comes to mind are vampires and humans and shifters and humans.
ReplyDeletelenikaye@yahoo.com
I pretty much love them all. As long as it's done somewhat tastefully (no strange things going into strange places) I don't care if it's a were turtle and vampire lemur :)
ReplyDeleteThanks for the awesome post and giveaway!

I love shifter-human romances, especially the Curran - Kate Daniels couple. Actually, I pretty much like shifters period. Rawr!
ReplyDeleterwschwarz11ATgmailDOTcom
I loved Sherrilyn Kenyon's Bad Moon Rising. It was about Fang and Aimee. A Bear and a wolf pairing.
ReplyDeletetruebloodfan AT rock DOT com
Good question... I love shifters and human stories but I also love faeries and human stories. I really just love them all!
ReplyDeleteMy favorite shifter-human relationship is between Kate and Curran.
ReplyDeleteSkk25@aol.com
I like any of the Shifter stories. Love MJD, so count me in on the contest please. Thanks for the giveaway! bpatrick64113@sbcglobal.net
ReplyDeleteI like human and shifter romances too, especially big cat shifters like leopards, lions, tigers. Or psy(chic) and human or shifter romances, such as in my favorite series, Psy Changeling by Nalini Singh.
ReplyDeleteangeldream3[AT]gmail[DOT]com
I love to read about fae and human relationships, but they're kind of few and far between. I also really enjoy shifter (any animal)-human relationships.
ReplyDeletentelhiard@gmail.com
humans and cat shifters. especially the jaguar shifters..man I bet those guys are flexible!
ReplyDeletekristinaparmenter51(at)gmail(dot)com
Love is love, so as long as there's passion, growth, and love, what should I care about their species? ;)
ReplyDeleteThanks for the post and giveaway. I absolutely love the Betsy series, and I look forward to reading the spin off.
ReplyDeletesab5723 at hotmail dot com
I love Demon's and humans and Vampires and Humans :) Not really a big deal as long as it's hot and intense
ReplyDeletejune111(at)att(dot)net
Shelly Laurenston's shifter books are always fun. Patricia Briggs has interesting shifters, not just Curran - although I totally agree about Curran's hotness!

Arrrgh! Brain freeze. ILONA ANDREWS write the Kate Daniels/Curran series, which I highly recommend. Patricia Briggs write (among other things) the Mercy Thompson series, also highly recommended.

ReplyDeletecandice[dot]debney[at]gmail[dot]com
There are so many were romances that I love. Gail Carriger, Eileen Wilks, Patty Briggs, Jennifer Lynn Barnes, Heather Davis, Dana Marie Bell, J L Langley.
ReplyDeleteE Earhart at cruzio dot com
Well werewolf-human ones have to be a favorite but who doesn't love vamp-human relationships? There's been a recent rise in human-zombie ones though which is strange but has worked in the right writer's hands. ;)
ReplyDeleteOh wow, that is a hard question. Does Twilight count!? LOL... I think I love all shifter books. Dani Harper's new series is fantastic :)
ReplyDeleteI love vampire and human relationships, but werewolf and human and werewolf and vampire are pretty cool too.
ReplyDeleteGreat question! I could answer that so many ways...but I really like reading about shifter/human relationships. A good example would be Lora Leigh's Breed's...they're sexy, complicated, dangerous, fun, exciting...
ReplyDeletebarbbattaglia@yahoo.com
Kate and Curran. Adam and Mercy. Gosh there are so many wonderful inter-species pair out there. I have been wanting to read this. Thanx for the opportunity!
ReplyDeleteI like the cover. Have seen mixed reviews but would not mind reading it
ReplyDeleteChllybrd(at)gmail.com
I just started the Queen Betsy series and I love it. I can't wait to read this series too.

I really don't have a preference on what kind of interspecies I read, I love paranormal/urban fantasy. Thanks.
ReplyDeleteAreeths at new dot rr dot com
I haven't read too many other than human/werewolf and human/vampire. Those are awesome though.
ReplyDeleteVampire and human are always fun. And the occasional vampire/shifter always leads to some conflict and fun resolution.
ReplyDeleteI love MJD's books! I have this one on my wishlist. Thanks for the giveaway! brendem7@comcast.net
ReplyDeleteVamps and humans are my favorite.
ReplyDeleteI love interspecies romances. Some of my favorite authors write interspecies romances such as Kelley Armstrong, Gena Showalter, Kresley Cole and many more.
ReplyDeleterachaelmccully@yahoo.com
I am a Patricia Briggs "Mercy Thompson" fan. Shifter romance is the best.
ReplyDeleteI love paranormal or urban anything! Usually human/vampire are my favorite but as long as the lead is a strong survivor, I'll read it.
ReplyDeleteI love all kinds of romance but my most favorites are the kind that have humor and magic in them. I have been a fan ever since my librarian recommended undead and unemployed to me several years ago. Congrats on your new release! I will read anyway but winning the contest would be nice.
ReplyDeletenatalielozano@ymail.com
the best sustitude ,to any of your hilarous stories, i found are:
ReplyDeletewerewolfs:
- "Kitty and the midnighthour", by carrie vaughn
- "Dead witch walking", and the follow ups by kim harrison
- "twillight series" without the shortstory by stephenie meyer
random:
- "love at first bite(1979)", i didnt read the book but this is the best vampire movie ever made.
- "the otherworld series", by yasmine galenorn
the howling? no thanks!
I love all the Undead books, derk's bain also like the Jennifer Scales Novels about human/dragons and other mythical creatures.
ReplyDeleteEven though I do love the vampire-human love stories, the vampire-werewolf stories are pretty awesome. They don't have to be gentle with one another, as sups usually have to be with humans, but the vampire has a strong source to feed from and one isn't always protecting the other. They are protecting each other. Awesome relationship!
ReplyDeleteI enjoy vampire-human, werewolf-human, superhero/Protector-human (Julie Kenner's books) Faerie-human, angel-human, and demon-human. That should cover it eh?
ReplyDeleteI'm a fan of them all--who can't love a wolf and it's mate? ;)
ReplyDeleteThe damphir and vampire romance is always fascinating. Let's see vamp/human, were/human, god/human (this one is rare though), and my fave is demon/human.
ReplyDeleteTurtle and vampire lemur...awesome! And Patricia, you might want to check out NO REST FOR THE WITCHES and/or FAERIES GONE WILD...both my novellas in those are have fairy protagonists. Of course, my fairies are well over six feet tall and have accounting degrees, but they're still fairies...
ReplyDeleteThanks for the kind comments, everyone!
I love vampires and humans my favorite! I just love to read about werewolves, shifters and vampires and so many more! I love Paranormal Romance!
ReplyDeleteI love the Psy/Changeling series by Nalini singh
ReplyDeleteI enjoy Fae-Human relationships in general, not just romances.
ReplyDeleteI love the Psy/changeling series.
ReplyDeleteI think I like weres-human romances the best because they are closer to being human than any other supernatural. And they understand human emotions and morals better.
ReplyDelete
