**Visit Dark Faerie Tales today for her Deadly Destination tour of Jocelynn Drake Savannah from Mira & a chance to win BURN THE NIGHT**

I never miss an opportunity to spend more time in the Sweetblood world created by Laurie London, which is why I’m thrilled that my fictional friend and location scout Mackenzie (from BONDED BY BLOOD) is leading us on today’s Deadly Destinations tour.  She’s taking us all over Seattle and highlighting locations from the just released EMBRACED BY BLOOD (read my review HERE). Thanks to Laurie and Harlequin, two of you who comment on this post will win a copy of the book!  See details below

Mackenzie Foster-Shaw’s Guide to Seattle
by
Laurie London

Hi Everyone. I’m Mackenzie Foster-Shaw, the heroine of Bonded By Blood, book 1 of the Sweetblood series written by author Laurie London. Because I used to work as a movie location scout, Abigail and Angela asked me to show you a few of the Deadly Destinations in the Sweetblood books.

If a production company wanted to shoot a film in the Seattle area and had specific requirements for a location, they’d hire me to search out various possibilities. Cemeteries for a zombie flick, park benches overlooking marinas for a romantic comedy, brick alleyways where the Space Needle could be seen in the background for a cop movie. So I know the area fairly well.

Here’s a photo I took of the cemetery at the beginning of Bonded. I was hoping the production company would film a zombie movie here. Instead, can you picture a man hidden in the leaves under one of those trees in the background? IMG_0117

The climactic scene at the end of Bonded takes place at an abandoned prison. Laurie wanted the setting to convey a dark and oppressive tone. Here’s a picture that she used for inspiration. It freaks me out just looking at this place because of what happened here.

Embraced By Blood, book two in the series, just came out and the first scene takes place late at night on the Western Washington University campus. Because it’s a typical November, the weather is stormy and tumultuous, signifying the start of big changes that are about to take place. The fountain in the middle of Red Square has been drained for the winter and the tall iron lampposts don’t cast much light. Although Miller Hall, Bond Hall, and the lecture halls also surround the square, Laurie only mentions Old Main and Haggard Hall, because the names of these buildings reflect the tone of the scene better.

Alfonso Serrano, the hero of Embraced, is building a replica of his childhood estate, trying to get all the details correct. Haunted by some terrible mistakes he made in the past, he wants to honor his parents’ memory and show his estranged brother that he really does care. He grew up in the Cantabria region of Spain and this view from the house overlooking the San Juan Islands reminds him of back home. Chuckanut Drive2

One of the turning points in Embraced occurs on a small, uninhabited island in the San Juans. Without giving away any details, there’s an abandoned structure just like in Bonded, plus several abandoned “things.” (In fact, Laurie must have a weird fascination with anything uninhabited and empty—the e-novella Hidden by Blood starts out in an abandoned hunting cabin.) I’d attach a picture from this scene in Embraced, but I don’t want to spoil it for you. You’ll have to read the book to find out about this Deadly Destination. Let’s just say the name is very fitting.

Description:

Is she a deadly temptation...or the one woman who can quench his eternal thirst?

Alfonso Serrano is a hunted man. For months he's managed to elude the Darkbloods, vengeful foes who won't rest until he's dead. But he still craves one dangerous temptation: Lily DeGraff, the sexy Guardian agent he'll risk anything to protect.

Lily is a wanted woman. Her talent for tracking Sweet—a rare blood type that's addictive to vampires—makes her a prime target for enemy capture. Her only hope is the stealthy vampire operative who stole into her bed…then left her in despair. Danger aside, Lily won't let Alfonso near her heart again—until an irresistible hunger threatens to draw them back together… and into an assassin's snare.

    5. I don't know why, but everytime I hear or read the word "Seattle" I hear Ellen Pompeo in my head. Guess Grey's Anatomy left a serious impression :'D

Since I've never been to any big city outside of Europe, I LOVE Urban Fantasy or books that make you feel like your actually somewhere else. *_*

But, oh the cover. Is that lipstick or are HER lips covered in blood, too? *grin*

The blurb sounds good, but I haven't heard of the series yet. *googles*

      Thanks for this Giveaway!

    35. The story in both of the Blood books sounds great. I haven't read either yet, though -- because of the covers. Seriously, when I saw the one for Bonded by Blood I wondered why the nice people at HQN hate Laurie London... What a shame, and I know it's nothing an author can control.
