Cover Art: Lots! 12 covers

Doug from ScifiGuy.ca hit the mother load of book covers recently with 9 upcoming paranormal titles.  Plus I’ve got 3 more that Doug hasn’t spotted…yet.

First up, Sacrifice (Mortal Path, book 2) by Dakota Banks due out in September. I didn’t love the first book in the series, but the cover art was awesome, and this one looks just as good, if a bit like Deadtown by Nancy Holzner (see below).

Book Description:

A demon's enslaved executioner--a ravager of lives and souls--Maliha Crayne has been reborn, willing to sacrifice her immortality for a chance at freedom ... and salvation. Now she has an opportunity to prevent the death of thousands to help balance the countless lives she has obliterated over the centuries. To do so, she must locate and destroy an evil cabal of madmen in possession of a weapon of unspeakable power--and survive the immortal assassins who are now after her blood. But it means reverting to the old ways and surrendering once more to the darkness.

Infinite Days (The Vampire Queen, book 1) by Rebecca Maizel due out August 3rd. I appreciate the authors comments about the cover because it isn’t striking me. I do wonder about the significance of the gold in the models eyes…

I love it. I think it captures the tone of the book, which as you will read is not typical for a vampire book. I can't say anymore. No, really, I can't. That would be bad. So yaaaaay St. Martin's Press! As a side note, the interior design is also really smashing and I wish I could show it to you here but then you would be reading the book and that would be unfair. – Rebecca Maizel

Book Description:

When Lenah Beaudonte, a 500-year-old vampire queen, wakes up a human teenager at an ultra-cliquey prep school, she must choose between embracing the humanity she’s always craved and saving her new friends from her vicious coven. The first in a sizzling new YA series.
Lenah Beaudonte is, in many ways, your average teen: the new girl at Wickham Boarding School, she struggles to fit in enough to survive and stand out enough to catch the eye of the golden-boy lacrosse captain. But Lenah also just happens to be a recovering five-hundred-year-old vampire queen. After centuries of terrorizing Europe, Lenah is able to realize the dream all vampires have -- to be human again. After performing a dangerous ritual to restore her humanity, Lenah entered a century-long hibernation, leaving behind the wicked coven she ruled over and the eternal love who has helped grant her deep-seated wish.
Until, that is, Lenah draws her first natural breath in centuries at Wickham and rediscovers a human life that bears little resemblance to the one she had known. As if suddenly becoming a teenager weren’t stressful enough, each passing hour brings Lenah closer to the moment when her abandoned coven will open the crypt where she should be sleeping and find her gone. As her borrowed days slip by, Lenah resolves to live her newfound life as fully as she can. But, to do so, she must answer ominous questions: Can an ex-vampire survive in an alien time and place? What can Lenah do to protect her new friends from the bloodthirsty menace about to descend upon them? And how is she ever going to pass her biology midterm?

End of Days (Night Runner Novels # 2) by Max Turner due out September 28th. Wow, I know nothing about this book but I’ll buy it for the cover alone.  Doug thinks it has a Twilight vibe, and I have to agree.  I’m adding both Night runner books to my wishlist.

Book Description:

In this thrilling follow up to Night Runner, Zack Thomson is back with his friend Charlie, searching for answers all the while being hunted by a creature most deadly...
While Charlie struggles with his vampirism, he, Zack, and their friends are pulled into a conflict with the mysterious Mr. Hyde, a creature who hunts vampires. As the story unfolds, and the ties between Zach and his girlfriend Luna intensify, the network of support around them collapses, forcing them to redefine their notions of good and evil and find a way forward.

Night Runner: A Novel

Night Star (Immortals, book 5) by Alyson Noel due out in November. I haven’t read any of these yet, and the cover bottle looks like it could be the newest perfume from Paris Hilton, but the spoilerish description sounds good.

Book Description:

At the start of this mesmerizing new installment in the Immortals series Ever and Damen are still separated by the poison lingering in Damen’s body. Their only hope of being together is the antidote that was spilled on Jude’s shirt when he killed their enemy Roman. Now Haven is in possession of the shirt—and she’s out for revenge. Blinded by rage and grief, Haven— who blames Ever for killing Roman—could be Ever and Damen’s deadliest enemy yet. Ever is forced to make an impossible choice—allow Haven to destroy her and her dearest friends, or send her to the Shadowland, the abyss for lost souls.

Cross Your Heart (Broken Hearts, book 7) by Michele Bardsley due out September 7th. I love the chick lit covers for all the books in this series.

Book Description:

After the death of my husband—and my dreams of motherhood—I returned to the family estate in Broken Heart, Oklahoma. Little did I know I would literally give up my life as Elizabeth Bretton, the Silverstone heiress. The whole undead situation calls for a drink—blood martini, straight up, please.
Escaping the past isn’t that easy—especially when someone else’s past is out to get me. Now I have a vengeful ghost trying to kill me, a 150-year-old mystery to solve, and an outrageous were-jaguar named Tezozomoc “Tez” Abraham Elvis Jones trying to get into my boudoir. Tez is a homicide detective, who is vulgar, egotistical, presumptuous—and ridiculously hot. Mreow, indeed.

Queen of Shadows (Shadow World, book 1) by Dianne Sylvan due out August 31st. I love this cover! The colors, the background, the flame haired model.  Stunning!

Book Description:

Spread throughout the dark corners of our world lies the Shadow World, a society of vampires that feeds off the living. In Austin, Texas, one woman’s madness will drive her into a world that few people ever see–or even know exists…
Shortly after she picked up a guitar, Miranda Grey conquered the Austin music scene with a newfound ability to psychically manipulate her audience’s emotions. But as her powers outgrow her control, her mind is increasingly invaded by haunting secrets and overwhelming sadness. Unable to look anyone in the eye, Miranda is fast approaching the edge of insanity–with no one to catch her fall…

When he outlawed killing humans, David Solomon ignited a civil war among Austin’s vampires. As Prime of the South, his sympathy for mortals angered the old guard who refuse to control their violent urges. David has his hands full with the growing insurgency, but he takes in a broken-down woman, a musician in need of supernatural guidance. Little does he know that Miranda Grey has the power to change his world as well…

Atlantis Betrayed (Warriors of Poseidon, book 6) by Alyssa Day due out September 7th. I’m sure the final version won’t have the red tint.

No book description yet, but Alyssa posted this snippet:

Christophe’s book has a title and release date! The warrior so many of you love to hate will find his comeuppance--and his redemption--in Atlantis Betrayed, coming September 7, 2010!

The Fallen Blade: Act One of the Assassini (The Vampire Assassin Trilogy)by Jon Courtenay Grimwood due out January 11, 2011. The cover art is by Larry Rostant.  Doesn’t the model remind you of Jasper from the Twilight movies?

Book Description:

In the depths of night, customs officers board a galley in a harbor and overpower its guards. In the hold they find oil and silver, and a naked boy chained to the bulkhead. Stunningly beautiful but half-starved, the boy has no name. The officers break the boy’s chains to rescue him, but he escapes…
Venice is at the height of its power. In theory Duke Marco commands. But Marco is a simpleton so his aunt and uncle rule in his stead. They command the seas, tax the colonies, and, like those in power before them, fear assassins better than their own…
In a side chapel, Marco’s fifteen-year old cousin prays for deliverance from her forced marriage. It is her bad fortune to be there when Mamluk pirates break in to steal a chalice, but it is the Mamluks’ good luck – they kidnap her…
In the gardens beside the chapel, Atilo, the Duke’s chief assassin, prepares to kill his latest victim. Having cut the man’s throat, he turns back, having heard a noise, and finds a boy crouched over the dying man, drinking blood from the wound. The speed with which the boy dodges a dagger and scales a wall stuns Atilo. And the assassin knows he has to find the boy…
Not to kill him, but because he’s finally found what he thought he would never find. Someone fit to be his apprentice…

Julie Kagawa officially revealed the art for for The Iron Daughter, due out in August, and Winter's Passage, the Iron Fey novella (ebook) coming in June.  I hope HarlequinTEEN puts together a print anthology (maybe with Rachel Vincent’s enovella My Soul to Lose) for those of us without ereaders, but I love the scroll work design on all the books in this series.

Book Description:

Love and Betrayal.A Faery world gone mad.
Half Summer faery princess, half human, Meghan has never fit in anywhere. Deserted by the Winter Prince she thought loved her, she is a prisoner to the Winter faery queen. As war looms between Summer and Winter, Meghan knows that real danger comes from the Iron Fey, iron-bound faeries that only she and her absent prince have seen. But no one believes her. Worse, Meghan's own fey powers have been cut off. She's alone in Faery with only her wits for help. Trusting anyone would be foolish. Trusting a seeming traitor could be deadly. But even as she grows a backbone of iron, Meghan can't help but hear the whispers of longing in her all-too-human heart.

Smexy Books has the cover for Crave: A Novel of the Fallen Angels by J. R. Ward. due out October 5th. I like the tattoo blending into the background, but what is up with his belt? It looks like someone went nuts with a bedazzler.

Book Description:
