| I like the color and lighting on this cover, the red looks foreboding without going over the top. A little more stylized than cover #1, but this one looks great, too. | Not quite as striking as the debut, but I love that she is wearing actual clothes that would let her do some serious damage with that sword. I wonder if that's the same character though? |

| I like the use of light, it even makes the orange text work. As nice as those forearms and t-shirt are, they don’t make up for the “What’s that smell” facial expression. | This series has been all over the place cover - wise, but I hope they keep this style. This is what I like to see on PNR covers. He is much hotter w/ the black t-shirt than he would be bare chested. No cheese factor here at all. |

| THE ISIS COLLAR started the trend to much more specific covers for this series, and I like that direction. This cover is all about Celia, and that works for me. | Love the daggers on her wrists & the lighting is beautiful. I do wish the entire series had unified covers, but I do like the direction they've gone with these last two. |

| The perspective on HEARTS OF FIRE is a little campy, but I love the street view on HEARTS OF DARKNESS. | This almost looks like the placeholder image that shows up *before* the final cover w/ the character front and center. There just isn't anything here. And the little dragon graphic looks just the the one on Debra Cooke's Dragon Diaries series. |

| Mmm, mmm, mmm. It’s like Bruce Banner and Sam Winchester had a love child. Despite my usual stance on shirtless covers (and soul patches), this one is working for me. The glow on his shoulders alone is worth the price of admission. | Tony Mauro did the art for the first cover & I think this is his work again. The glow is beautifully conveyed, and the scratches=werewolves is there, which is accurate, so, overall, nice. |

| The description alone would be enough to pull me in on this cover, but I love the use of light and fog as well. | Wow is this beautiful. Before I read the description, I thought this would be Grecian based on her dress, but I'm now very curious to find out what's under her mask. |

| Oh boy. The lighting on all three heads don’t even remotely match, which is bad enough, but the expression on the center girl completely freaks me out. She’s like a reptilian Emma Stone. | Nothing special here. I would have loved to see something like the Personal Demons series covers by Lisa Desrochers. This just doesn't look like it was made by a big publishing house (and it was). |

| The blue and red on prior covers worked as accent colors on the dark background, but this seafoam looks very out of place. It also looks out of place next to the magenta author text. | The covers from this series are all stunning, so even though this one is my least favorite (it's missing the really strong Gothic vibe that the others had), it's still really beautiful. I feel sad just looking at them, which is what the artist wanted to convey. Plus the shade of blue for her dress is striking. |

| There are too many conflicting accent colors on this one, and the branches combined with creepy fingers and vacant expression make this a cover that tries too hard. | Finally a decent cover for this series! I am not a fan of the first two covers (still have no idea how they relate to the actual stories), but the books themselves are great. I like the branches here, and while it's still not a 'wow' cover, wow is it an improvement. |

| | Description: It’s all-out war (and no-holds-barred romance) in the climactic conclusion to Carrie Jones’s bestselling series. Zara is at the center of an impending apocalypse. True, she’s successfully rescued Nick from Valhalla, but it simply isn’t enough. Evil pixies are ravaging Bedford, and they need much more than one great warrior; they need an army. Zara isn’t sure what her role is anymore. She’s not just fighting for her friends; she’s also a pixie queen. And to align her team of pixies with the humans she loves will be one of her greatest battles yet. Especially since she can’t even reconcile her growing feelings for her pixie king . . . Unexpected turns, surprising revelations, and one utterly satisfying romantic finale make Endure a thrilling end to this series of bestsellers.

| Eye color is something that has to be done right, and I think this cover is a great example of success. This gold combined with the filigree in the background looks otherworldly and not overdone. | This isn't my favorite cover from this series (not loving the filigree), but I really appreciate that they all 'go' together enough for a thumbs up. |

| Though the colors are over the top, I think this works together. ALICE IN WONDERLAND meets Willy Wonka’s chocolate factory. | The image is on the small size, so it's a little hard to see all the details. It's pretty and the colors are rich and vibrant, but I don't see the connection to the description at all. |

And our picks for Best & Worst…
| Best | Worst |
Which are your Best and Worst?

I really like the Highgate Vampire cover, it's a little different than everything that's out now in a good way. I really liked O'Rourkes Torn, but this latest cover is kind of strange.
ReplyDeleteI think the style of HIGHGATE VAMPIRE really fits the subject, though it will be interesting to actually read a copy to see if the tone matches up. And we're entirely in agreement on BOUND. Sometimes a cover looks better in person, but the model's expression doesn't work at all for me.
DeleteI love Ironskin's cover - and the story sounds sooo good!
ReplyDeleteI love a good series, but I hate when they change cover designs in the middle of it (unless, of course, the change is for the better! although sometimes I prefer the old covers).
Losing a good cover scheme can be the *most* frustrating thing in the world, I can only imagine how the author feels. I hate it when the theme changes mid-stream, too, though I usually just cross my fingers and hope that they re-pub the earlier books in the new style.
DeleteI think some of the comments are mixed up. Or possibly the thumbs - ie Ironskin has a thumbs down from Abigail, but it's her best pick (I can't see any comments), and Dark Heart Surrender has Julia with thumbs up, bad comment, and Abigail with thumbs down, good comment.
ReplyDeleteIt's probably not important, it just confused me a little :)
Good eye, Tamlyn, looks like an older draft got published (those were default thumbs, not a change of heart).
DeleteYep, it looks like a few thumbs down should have been thumbs up. You can tell from the comments which we liked and didn't. Thanks for mentioning the discrepancy :)
