Throwdown Thursday is a weekly thing [hosted by The Neverending Shelf] where we tackle books with similar characters, covers, themes, etc. to determine which one rocks more. And it is up to YOU to determine the winner!
Last weeks Throwdown asked: The Edge covers vs. The Kate Daniels covers? The verdict by split decision was The Kate Daniels covers.
I have been on a major YA kick lately devouring the ones that I had on my shelf and even running to B&N to grab more. So of course I had to read the two fallen angel books: Hush, Hush by Becca Fitzpatrick and Fallen by Lauren Kate. Both are very different books despite this list of *SEMI-SPOILERISH* similarities:
- fallen angels
- spoilers on their covers (the angel image on the front of Hush, Hush, the angel text on the back of Fallen)
- a teenage girl with two love interests, one of whom may want to kill her
- a guy who likes the main character one minute and hates/indifferent to her the next
- comic relief best friend
- a death in the main character’s past
- the main character is seeing things that may/may not be there
- the life/death of the main character has cosmic repercussions
- surprise villains
- …and many more
So my question is: Which did you like more/are looking forward to more?
Fallen vs. Hush, Hush
Hush, Hush by Becca Fitzpatrick Fallen by Lauren Kate
Hush, Hush by Becca FitzpatrickProduct DescriptionFor Nora Grey, romance was not part of the plan. She's never been particularly attracted to the boys at her school, no matter how much her best friend, Vee, pushes them at her. Not until Patch came along. With his easy smile and eyes that seem to see inside her, Nora is drawn to him against her better judgment. But after a series of terrifying encounters, Nora's not sure who to trust. Patch seems to be everywhere she is, and to know more about her than her closest friends. She can't decide whether she should fall into his arms or run and hide. And when she tries to seek some answers, she finds herself near a truth that is way more unsettling than anything Patch makes her feel. For Nora is right in the middle of an ancient battle between the immortal and those that have fallen - and, when it comes to choosing sides, the wrong choice will cost her life. | Fallen by Lauren KateProduct DescriptionSome Angels are Destined to Fall There's something achingly familiar about Daniel Grigori. |

I have to pick Fallen. Hush, Hush just rubbed me the wrong way.
ReplyDeleteTough one. They are both similiar. I am going to go with Fallen. I see more potential for growth in this series.
ReplyDeleteI'm voting for Hush, Hush. I liked the strong female character, and found it to be more original than Fallen.
ReplyDeleteHonestly, when I read Fallen, I almost quit on multiple occasions. The action & plot literally didn't start developing until about page 350... and it's a 450 page book. o_O Good concept, poor execution.
I say Hush Hush all the way. I mean I liked them both but Hush Hush is up there with Twilight. I love Patch!!
ReplyDeleteHush Hush wins by a mile. It kept me interested, amused and Patch came off very sexy. I liked Nora (although hated Vee in the end).
ReplyDeleteAnd Fallen, while I love the cover (although Hush Hush wins there too) the story bored me.
Fun post!
I've not read either book, but by looking at the cover art, I would be more inclined to pick up Hush Hush.
ReplyDeleteI just finished Hush, Hush and loved it, but haven't read Fallen.
ReplyDeleteI do have a question for anyone who has their copy of it handy. In Hush, Hush, was there a really strange quotation attribution mistake on page 320? I reread that dialogue between her mother and her several times and it just was really baffling about who was saying the road was washed out. Am I out of my mind?
Arghh... this is tough!!
ReplyDeleteI am going with Hush Hush though.. the cover is excellent. The male model did a great job. the arch in his back is perfect
Hush, Hush all the way. Patch was so much more bad boy than Daniel. The chemistry Between patch and Nora was hot.
ReplyDeleteI did like Fallen but, yeah, Hush, Hush is better.....
I haven't read either yet but I'm included to go with Fallen since Hush, Hush has been getting a lot of mixed reviews. Aaand I love the cover.
ReplyDeleteHush,Hush ."With Cresendo" coming out "Questions will be answered, probably not all,but enough to keep us going on,and on.I see potential for a series that will get under our skin Release date, I think is Late summer? Will check on fallenarchangel .com Vtcozy
ReplyDeleteTo Wendy Sparrow Hi,It was Nora telling her MOM,ROADS WERE WASHED OUT..AMD OF COURSE WE KNOW THE TRUTH..GETTING A ROOM truth,,(with Patch.).It seems that they weren't that far from ne another...I can't wait till Cresendo..Becca did say the Cover Art was Beautiful(she posted that on her Blog.....have you been on the fansite..that I posted or Becca's Blog on livejournal...Just beautiful..I love talking about Hush,Hush..Susan
ReplyDeleteThanks vtcozy! Wendy wasn't the only one confused by that passage :)
ReplyDeleteI don't know... I just pulled out the book again to check and that whole section is funky. The mother later says that she'll call when the roads open up--and that wouldn't make sense if Nora was lying to cover up being with Patch. The paragraph breaks to attribute dialogue to certain people don't match either. Anyway, I'm glad Abigail spoke up. That whole section seems like it needs a re-edit for clarity. It's a picky point, though, on an otherwise fantastic book.
ReplyDeleteI read both books within this past week. Fallen angels are my new obsession. Both books were amazing and I couldn't put either down. But out of the two, I gave up a good night's sleep to finish Fallen because I was that hooked. So based on that alone, I would pick Fallen.
ReplyDeleteI have to say hush hush is way better, I litturally didn't put it down the whole night. Patch and Nora, were discribed stronger.
ReplyDeleteI did like Fallen at first, but until I read hush hush I can actually read it over and over again just coz I love Patch soo much.
Hush Hush wins hands down!! Even though the story of Fallen had great potential, it wasn't written upto its potential. If only Lauren wrote it a little better.
ReplyDeleteHush Hush kept me entertained and laughing throughout the whole book. God I love patch....soo sexy!! It can even be a stand-alone book despite just SOME loose ends.
However, when fallen ended, it felt like i had 100 more pages to read to just to get the complete story of one book.Felt like throwing the book across the room!! Ending was a cliff hanger, leaving the reader with TONS of questions.
The "fallen angel" from Hush hush seemed more like one due to his tough guy, stubborn attitude. While in fallen, i just kept wondering why did he "fall" in the first place; he was just plain old mean to Luce(the main girl). He had no charm.
I have to say i fell for Patch(hush hush), not Daniel(fallen). Barely anything was revealed about daniel. True Fallen is a 4-book series, but still, atleast write a COMPLETE BOOK instead of abruptly ending the story rite in the middle of a climax. ugh!!
Despite the lack of attraction in daniel, Fallen had a good setting, mythology and overall plot. Just like i said earlier, this story could've been a masterpiece if it was written by someone like Stephen King or Anne Rice.
Well i clearly explained why in my opinion, HUSH HUSH WINS!!!! =)
I am going to read Hush Hush as I bought bot the books but I gotta say by the end of Fallen I wanted to throw the book across the room. Well I've just finished it and am really annoyed, Luce was annoying she was so pathetic, at least when Bella from twilight was all mopey you could tell that was personality. Luce didn't have a personality! and neither did Daniel for that matter. Jeese you want a male lead who you can fall in love with along with your lady protagonist and he didn't even come close. I've only stated reading hush hush and Patch is oozing personality. He makes me want to read more. So hush hush or Fallen, i'll get back to you on hush hush but Fallen is a hell no.
ReplyDeleteThe plot was so stretched out, there were pages where nothing really happened and when something did actually happen most of it felt like an anti climax. Although I did read it all the way to the end because I was just dying to know what the whole thing was about in the first place, but felt cheated as it's clearly set up to get you to read the next book. I won't be, I need a book with really strong central characters whose personalities leap of the page... or at least a little bit.

hush hush all the way
ReplyDeleteThis is tough since i loved both books!! I will pick hush hush the chemistry between nora and patch is great! Although i love luce and daniel grigori, too.....
ReplyDeleteI read both crescendo and Hush Hush about 3 days before fallen. I love both Hush Hush books, Patch is amazing and Nora was great too BUT after having read Fallen, I have to say that the story was much better!!! i dont see how its not well written, I thought Hush Hush had good characters but it was written very poorly. The fallen story has a lot more potential and is a lot more original, while Hush Hush was pretty dull in comparaison. Truthfully, Hush Hush had more developped characters, who you could rly relate to. But i find that fallen portrayed characters that were mysterious and I felt as drawn to daniel as I did Patch. FALLEN ALL THE WAY
