Throwdown Thursday is a weekly thing [hosted by The Neverending Shelf] where we tackle books with similar characters, covers, themes, etc. to determine which one rocks more. And it is up to YOU to determine the winner!
Last weeks Throwdown asked Which do you prefer? The scary vampires or the seductive kind? The verdict was a draw. It seems vampires are only sexy if they have the ability to scare us in the process.
Stephen over at Fantasy Literature concluded last week that Santa Clause was indeed a vampire (his argument was pretty compelling), and if you read "You'd Better Not Pyout" by Nancy Pickard in the Wolfsbane and Mistletoe anthology you know all about Santa, his vampire children (aka elves), and his vampire reindeer Rudolph. Using those sources, I offer the following evidence for you to consider:
Vampire Santa or Jolly St. Nick?
- Santa Claus appears to be immortal.
- He only shows up at night and in a very sly and sneaky way.
- He has supernatural quickness.
- He dresses in the color of blood, which is obviously in case of splatters.
- Kids write him letters and leave him cookies aka invite him in.
- Elves look like children who never grow up
- A lot of people die around Christmas
- He can fly
- His big fluffy beard and mustache is perfect for hiding fangs
- Rosy red cheeks and nose flushed from fresh feedings perhaps
So what do you think? Have we been deceived by Coke commercials and mall displays? Is Santa among the undead?

You bring up some good points there! I think he does wear red to hide any spills. LOL

Naw, Santa Clause is real and one of the few good guys. How could such a bad guy love children so much, no way. Santa is a good guy.
