Throwdown Thursday is a weekly thing [hosted by The Neverending Shelf] where we tackle books with similar characters, covers, themes, etc. to determine which one rocks more. And it is up to YOU to determine the winner!
Last weeks Throwdown asked Once Bitten vs. Once Bitten vs…Which one is going to rise above its common title for you? The verdict by split decision was…Once Bitten, Twice Shy (Jaz Parks) by Jennifer Rardin.
Vampires have almost become two separate creatures by this point. There are the monsters that history has traditionally painted them to be: Bram Stoker’s Dracula, Nosferatu, Ilona Andrew’s vampires in the Kate Daniels books, (the lovely redhead below from one of my favorite vampire movies). Or they are the modern day heroes, the ideal mates - romantic and just a little bit dangerous: Stephenie Meyer’s Edward Cullen, Buffy’s Angel and Spike…

Ooh, this is a hard one - I love your throw downs! I like both kinds. I like the scary and the seductive. I just can't choose.
ReplyDeleteIt depends on my mood. Sometimes I really want a good scary vamp, like 30 Days of Night. Other times I want to look at the super hot vampire and be seduced by that world.
ReplyDeleteLately I'm happiest with the combination of both. First example that comes to mind is True Blood. Love the books but also like the show. The vamps aren't always nice and usually look really good.
This throw down is a toss up for me. It's a split decision.
Wow... This really is a hard one. I love the latest vampire novels and enjoy the seductiveness but nothing will ever beat a good chill up the spine from watching the movies based off of Anne Rice's works. I have to say I agree with Anna Dougherty combination makes it work. If you aren't frightened at least a little bit of them then many people might not find them as seductive.
ReplyDeleteSincerely,
Emma
I like them both - just depends on the mood I'm in. But for the record the scary kind are the ones that grabbed my imagination first at the age of 5. Yep, I've been a paranormal buff for a long time. Kinda scary for my mom to have a kid so young who was in love with scary movies. LOL!
ReplyDeleteBuffy was so great because it offered you the best of both worlds - and Spike was the ultimate, because he started out scary and became a seducer..... so, because I loved Spuffy so much, I have to say I prefer seductive vamps.
ReplyDeleteI also love Bones, Jean Claude, Stefan, Ivy Tamwood, Eric Northman....
Definitely seductive.
Seductive vampires are nothing unless they have something scary too in my opnion. The combination of being seductive while at the same time being dangerous is what makes the seductive vampire work. So if it has to be a choice between on or the other, I have to say: scary!
ReplyDeleteI am torn to say one or the other because love to be scared and seduced....
ReplyDeleteHowever if have to choose one over the other will pick scary for the adrenaline rush have had since a pre-teen and watched Dracula movies with my Dad....

Uhhh... seductive please. I'm married. I have enough scary in my life! :o)
ReplyDeleteThere's something a little bit sexy about a scary vampire. Eric from True blood, Deacon from the first Blade movie, Damon from Vampire Diaries just to name a few.
ReplyDeleteOh I like the seductive ones... but the monsterous ones are more common. Angel was a great show.. I like that brooding sort of vampire.
ReplyDeleteUmmmm....I do like the scary seducers. Angel, Spike, Bones, sigh.....
ReplyDeleteFor movies, I like my vampires scary. But in my books I like them seductive.
ReplyDeleteI agree with Sullivan, there has to be a little scary with the seductive or it just doesn't work. Vampires are dangerous so the scary element should be there.
Well, NO question on this since you used a picture of Angel AND Spike for Pete's sake. Seduction, hands down!
ReplyDeleteI lean more towards the scary ones, but like everyone else, it's the combination that works. I can only think of Anne Rice's vampires. They were all sexy as hell, but you would never mess with any of them!
