Meljean Brook, author of  The Guardian Series and contributor to the recent Must Love Hellhounds has a great offer on her site: FREE BOOKMARKS AND OTHER SWAG

“Contact me using the form below, including your name and address, and how many you’d like to receive, and I’d be happy to send them to you! Due to writing deadlines and my schedule, sometimes it takes me a couple of weeks to get them to the post office, but I promise they will come.

I also have a supply of signed bookplates, rack cards (they are like big bookmarks with more information — see the examples here) and magnets. I usually include these with the bookmarks anyway, but if you want more than one or two (for your reading groups or if you have a friend/family member who is a fan) please let me know, and I’ll send you a package of however many items you require.

Fot those who don't know, Betrayals is the sequel to Strange Angels. A little summary on Strange Angels:

Dru Anderson has what her grandmother called “the touch.” (Comes in handy when you’re traveling from town to town with your dad, hunting ghosts, suckers, wulfen, and the occasional zombie.) Then her dad turns up dead—but still walking—and Dru knows she’s next. Even worse, she’s got two guys hungry for her affections, and they’re not about to let the fiercely independent Dru go it alone. Will Dru discover just how special she really is before coming face-to-fang with whatever—or whoever — is hunting her?

Variety reports:

Universal makes 'Wicked' deal

Thompson to adapt first book in Marr's series

By MICHAEL FLEMING

Universal Pictures has acquired screen rights to "Wicked Lovely," the bestselling first book in a fantasy series written by Melissa  Marr that will see its fourth installment published next year by Harper Collins.

The studio bought the book to be produced by Wild West Picture Show Prods., and has hired "Edward Scissorhands" scribe Caroline Thompson to adapt it.
Wild West is Vince Vaughn's U-based shingle.
The protagonist is a 17-year-old girl who can see fairies, and must fend off the advances of a fairy king determined to marry her to save the planet from his vengeful mother.
CAA brokered the book deal with Writers House and ICM reps Thompson.

The Iron Hunt (Hunter Kiss, Book 1) by Marjorie M. Liu

imageBook Blurb: Silver smoke winds around my torso, peeling away from my ribs and back, stealing the dark mist covering my hands and lower extremities...tattoos dissolving into demon flesh, coalescing into small dark bodies. My boys. The only friends I have in this world. Demons. I am a demon hunter. I am a demon. I am Hunter Kiss. By day, her tattoos are her armor. By night, they unwind from her body to take on forms of their own- demons of the flesh, turned into flesh. This is the only family demon hunter Maxine Kiss has ever known. It's the only way to live, and the very way she'll die. For one day her demons will abandon her for her daughter to assure their own survival- leaving Maxine helpless against her enemies. But such is the way of Earth's last protector- the only one standing between humanity and the demons breaking out from the prison veil. It is a life lacking in love, reveling in death, until one moment- and one man- changes everything...

Mini Review: I was a little confused at first reading this. I felt like I had missed a book even though this is officially the 1st book in the series. Turns out the author wrote a short story (Hunter's Kiss) as part of an anthology (Wild Thing) that occurs chronologically before this book and tells how Maxine met Grant.

I found the concept of this book to be interesting (demon tattoos that protect Maxine during the day and peel of her skin at night to fight with her), but the story felt a little more straight fantasy than urban fantasy despite the modern setting. The romantic elements were also almost non-existent, which was disappointing. Those are minor complaints though. I'm still looking forward to reading the next book.
