TOP TEN SHOWS ON MY DVR
I love my DVR. It holds many wonderful things for me to watch when I’m done writing for the day. Of course, when I’m on a deadline, the wonderful things pile up on my DVR. LOL. Here’s the top ten shows on my DVR.
(Disclaimer: I don’t have HBO or Showtime at the moment or True Blood and Dexter would be among my faves. However, Sherri, my daughter of the heart does, and she records the programs so we can watch them together.)
1. Supernatural
I love this show. Have from day one. The writing is superb, the cast fantastic, the storyline riveting. The relationship between Sam and Dean Winchester and members of their extended hunter family—Bobby, in particular—is what really draws me in. I’m all about character, and so is Supernatural.
Top hottie: Jared Padalecki (Sam Winchester), but Jensen Ackles (Dean Winchester) is one helluva close second.
2. Sons of Anarchy
Holy hell. Sexy and dangerous, violent and complex characters. This show has it all. Sure, it’s about outlaw bikers, but we’re getting a look into a world we’d never see otherwise. And again, the writing, acting, and characterizations are superb.
Top Hottie: Charlie Hunnam (Jax Teller).
3. Burn Notice
A sexy burned (blacklisted) spy trying to clear his name while basically trapped in Miami with a few friends, his mom, and loads of enemies. Smart and funny and heart-wrenching all at the same time. Great writing and performances.
Top Hottie: Jeffrey Donovan (Michael Westen). (His actual looks are—for me—just average, but he’s charismatic and he definitely makes Michael sexy.)
4. Justified
Just the setting alone does it for me: Kentucky. We’ve got tall, lean, and sexy U.S. Marshals in cowboy hats, coal miners, the Dixie Mafia, back hills accents. Again, fantastic (and often funny) writing and performances.
Top Hottie: Timothy Olyphant (U.S. Marshall Raylan Givens).
5. Southland
A cop drama that transcends the genre. The storylines are riveting and realistic. I’m often sitting on the edge of the sofa when watching and the storyline has twisted in ways I never saw coming. Top notch writing and performances.
Top Hottie: There isn’t a character on this show that oozes sex appeal (for me)—which is fine. But the character I like the most is Regina King, who plays Detective Lydia Adams as a woman of heart and steel.
6. Vampire Diaries
I thoroughly enjoy this paranormal soap opera. It has nice twists and turns and shies away from doing the expected. I appreciate that. Sometimes I want to knock a head or two together, but I’m okay with that. I am being entertained.
Top Hottie: (He’s dead on the series! *sob*) Taylor Kinney as the werewolf Mason Lockwood, and a close second is the vamp who ripped Mason’s heart from his chest, Damon Salvatore (Ian Somerhalder).
7. Community
One of the best comedies out there about an eccentric group of friends in a community college. Full of pop references and often parodies movies, TV, and even gaming. I LOVE this show! Great writing, but the characterizations is what makes the show.
Top Hottie: Joel McHale. But the character I like the most is Abed Nadir as played by Danny Pudi.
8. Ghost Adventures
These guys crack me up. I believe they are absolutely sincere in the ghost hunting, but their occasional frat-boys-gone-wild-and-a-little-stupid antics both amuse and irritate me. LOL. Still, I enjoy the show and watch every week.
Top Hottie: None.
9. America’s Next Top Model
Say what you will, I can’t look away from this show. My fave part is the photo shoots. I love seeing the behind the scenes—what the photographer wants and what the model manages to deliver. This show is like crack to me. I’m hooked. My one guilty pleasure.
10. Hawaii Five-O
Again, the relationships! The dynamic between Danny and Steve is what captured my heart—along with their snarky banter with one another. *sighs happily*
Top Hottie: Alex O’Loughlin (Steve McGarrett).
The remaining shows on my DVR are: Being Human, The Office, House Hunters International, The First 48, Modern Family, Dog Whisperer, Seconds from Disaster, Air Emergency (both bad before I take a flight anywhere. LOL), Blue Bloods, The Daily Show with Jon Stewart, The Walking Dead, American Ninja Warrior, Stolen Voices, Buried Secrets, Face Off (the special effects artist reality show, not the movie), Spartacus, and the soon-to-start Camelot.
----------------------------------------------

Me and my cats (Amiga, Diabla, and Ember) live in Springfield, Oregon and dream about having a home in New Orleans one of these days (well, I do, anyway. The cats most likely have far different goals involving sleep). I like Springfield, so I'd keep my home here too (in these wild fantasies) so I'd have a place during the summer heat and humidity and, wow, why not a nice little cottage on the Oregon coast while I'm at it? And a few pool boys? I'm the author of two urban fantasy series, both published by POCKET: The Maker's Song series and the Hoodoo (Kallie Riviere) series.

Awesome giveaway, Abigail! Sons of Anarchy is one of the favorites in this house too, but we don't get to watch anymore without cable. :(
ReplyDeletetheresacole(at)live(dot)com
I love community, did you know that Josh Holloway (from Lost) is going to be in the season finale? I am looking forward to it.
ReplyDeleteI would love to read the books.
twoofakind12@yahoo.com
Ooo, I've been meaning to try the Maker's Song series.
ReplyDeleteI've noticed American TV really seems to like doing full blown Hollywood budget series. It can make British TV seem pretty low budget at times. & I've yet to find a serious British cop show as good as CSI.
ginnygutsell@hotmail.co.uk
I love Supernatural, Vampire Diaries and America's Next Top Model too! Too bad TVD isn't going to be on again for another month... :/
ReplyDeleteThanks for the giveaway!

ReplyDeletegoodbooksgoodcoffeegoodlife@gmail.com
I keep meaning to give Hawaii Five-O a try. I loved the original series when I was a kid and Alex O'Loughlin is pretty darned yummy. Like many others, I was so sad when Moonlight was cancelled.
ReplyDeletejen at delux dot com
Sounds wonderful! i have to catch up with shameless on hbo....
ReplyDeletehense1kk @ cmich dot edu :)
I share some of those favpirite shows. Supernatural rocks, Community cracks me up, and Hawaii Five-O and Vampire Diaries are starting to get me.
ReplyDeleteAlso Being Human is one of my favourites.
Thanks for opening the contest internationally. anacorvonunes[at]gmail[dot]com
Loved your post! I'm also a fan of Supernatural (uh, two hot guys), and Vampire Diaries (uh...more hot guys), Hawaii Five-O (love the banter and action) but I am also a big fan of Fringe. Thanks for sharing!

Wow, I would absolutely love to win this give away!!! Also, I only have time to watch 1 or 2 hours of tv a week, but I never miss The Vampire Diaries!
ReplyDeleteWaterlilly2828@yahoo.com
I absolutely adore Supernatural (although I am more a Jenson girl!) - it's so entertaining and heart-wrenching. I'm just bough Vamp diaries season 1 on DVD so have to catch up on the series! Fab choices. :-)
ReplyDeletenotanotherbookblog(at)hotmail(dot)co(dot)uk
America's next top Model is one I can't miss too. Great giveaway please count me in.
ReplyDeleteJnmt3@hotmail.com
What about Being Human on SyFy. That show is sort of a surprise to me. I thought it was going to be sort of funny - much more angst. Great give away.
ReplyDeleteI am a Damon fangirl. I loved the books when I was a kid and rooted for Damon then too. :)
ReplyDeleteI could never get into Sons of Anarchy. I tried. When I was much younger, I was so in to the whole outlaw theme, but having worked law enforcement now, I've seen the uglier side of that reality and I don't want it in my entertainment.
Love your covers, by the way. :)
Hmm, I really like vampire Diaries, but was never really able to get into Supernatural. Haven't checked out any of the rest =)
ReplyDeleteThanks for the chance to win!
Kate

OK, my favorites are a bit different: The Closer and NCIS top the list for me. No HBO or Showtime, so I miss that bunch. But I do have SyFy and truly love the Stargate universes, and oh yeah, Merlin.

I actually don't watch a lot of TV, usually. My wife subscribed to Hulu though, and we've been going through an episode or two a night of the old Buffy series. Fun stuff. Good fodder for urban fantasy writing too, I have to say. ;)
ReplyDeleteHaven't read ANY of your books, but I've run across your name now twice in two days. Always fun finding someone else interesting to read!
And of course I forget to leave a contact email... ;) kevins.studio@gmail.com
ReplyDeleteFantastic TV! I just looked up The Walking Dead, because I totally forgot about it. We don't get a new season until October! Sheesh. Worth the wait though. Great friggin show!

sararcummins AT gmail DOT com
Your DVR collection looks a lot like mine. Thank goodness TNT shows reruns of Supernatural so Lady K and I can catch up with previous seasons. Love love love Hawaii Five-0, Justified (sigh...Raylan....)
ReplyDeleteI am just so glad DH finally got DVR for me. I was missing so many good shows as I go up with Lady K at 8pm to get her ready for bed. From 8-9 it's only Phineas and Ferb or whatever Disney show while I read. I at least get to read....
VWinship at aol dot com
Haha....Adrian I was right I knew Supernatural and Sam were your number one.
ReplyDeleteMy DVR is set for NCIS, The Vampire Diaries, CSI and Hawaii Five-O everything else I either catch it or I don't. I do miss my Jonny and The Tudors but I seen the ad for Camelot and will be checking it out. Thanks Dish Network for a free year of Starz.
For those who have not read Adrian run out and get the books they are amazing Dante, Heather, my man Von and the rest of the gang will keep you interested and can't help but laugh at the guys when they really get going.
Please do not enter me in the contest as I have my signed copies of the books.
DVR is one of the best inventions ever. So much better than tangling with my VCR. :) Vamp Diaries is on our list as well, but I definitely agree that there are moments that just make me nuts. Our other favorites: NCIS, House, L&O SVU, Rizzoli & Isles, Being Human, & Bones. You should really check out Bones. Great characters & stories...how else could you laugh while looking at decomposed remains. Not always good at dinner time, depending on how much gore you like.
ReplyDeleteheatwave96(at)hotmail.com
Love the giveaway and the TV list. Sons of Anarachy I've actually wanted to try out.
ReplyDeleteI tend to watch a lot of Deju View though, so mostly Golden Girls, All In The Family, Designing Woman, that sort of thing.

ReplyDeleteI guess I am not big on change, I can watch the same shows over, and over, and over, and over, and.... you get the picture.....
The only fairly new one I watch is CSI.
I liked "The Gates" and look where that got me... :(=
Gotta say though, your spectrum is from here to the moon, over Saturn into Earth's ocean.... -> Sorry, it's past my bed time ;)=
Big hugs!
